MEG 105-205 come in please

alright guys, I'm going to be doing a paint correction on my buddies 3rd gen camaro. paint is 3 years old. has minor scracthes,but tons of swirls. i was thinking about hitting it up with my PC DA and some MEG 10-205. now my Q's are
what are the steps and what pads go with what product?

step 1, wash car,
2, clay car
3, 105-with yellow pad????
4, 205 with what color pad??
5, use sealer polish what's a really good one? blk pad?
6, wax to protect blk pad?

One thing I know is you cannot assume on pad color, every manufacture has a different set up, some are similar but you cant assume. There is a link to a pad comparision chart.

I got my products on line and what I was messing around with recently was pad/chemical combo. Read the sticky on total cut it will help immensely.

Why are you assuming that you'll automatically need M105 on this car? Have you ever worked on this paint before? What if it's pretty soft and delicate and you don't need anything that aggressive to correct it?

For the price of a bottle of M105 you can pick up both Ultimate Compound and SwirlX and have two different levels of cut at your disposal.

Please don't take this wrong - M105 is absolutely fantastic stuff, but it's not a be-all, end-all product; nothing is. In many cases it's total overkill for the task at hand. If you're wetsanding a paint job then you'll be hard pressed to find something that will pull out the sanding marks as fast and leave as nice a finish in the process. But for typical swirl/cobweb removal via D/A you'll find Ultimate Compound offers almost as much cut but is just sooooo much more user friendly in the process. Longer buffing cycle, less dust, easier wipe off.

If you find yourself up against it though, and you need M105 to attack a particularly stubborn isolated issue, then go for it. But planning on it as your first step before actually working on the paint is not the best way to go about things.

Are you using Megs' yellow pads or Lake Country pads? If you are using Megs' pads, then you want to go with the yellow pad with either M105, Ultimate Compound, SwirlX, or M205. You can then follow up with, say, SwirlX or M205 with a black pad to refine the finish further, if desired or needed.

I would always go with Ultimate Compound before M105. It's more user-friendly. It does not have nearly the cut of M105, but for me that is just fine. I love M205. I personally find UC and M205 to be a great combo. You can find UC and SwirlX at local auto stores. Also, I understand that some Advance Autos are now selling M105 & M205. You can also order these products through Advance Auto Online and have them delivered to the local store. There's a 20% sale right now on online orders.

If using Lake Country pads, I would try an orange pad first; yellow is pretty abrasive. I like using a white or green (the light correction LC green, not the finer polishing green). Blk is fine for the final LSPs, but red/blue is OK, too.

Ive used the LC orange pads with the 105/205 combo, which finished off to a great clear finish !

As experts have suggested, do a test spot & go with least aggressive approach first to understand the kind of paint surface you're dealing with !
