How do you remove scratches and swirls from headlights and rear lights?

Hi Guys.

Went to look at my next detailing job and as usual I have taken my brinkman dual xenon to look at the paint.

I have noticed this car has spent its life in car washes. Swirl city!!!!. Also both the rear and front lights are covered in swirls.

Is it the same process as using a d/a on the paint?.I was thinking of trying swirl X with a foam applicator pad but if a d/a can be used I will use that for quickness.

Also what is the process that works best/da speed etc...

Compound/polish/wax?

Guys please help?, as I'm a complete novice to correcting swirls on lights

Same steps as the paint.

Sometimes (usually) it's to the point that you need to wetsand though.

I would not tell them to expect much difference in the lights as that is usually added cost in a detail, but try to clean them up with a pass of M105 or something similar.

So will a d/a be ok to use? I have u/c dc01/ scratch x 2.0/ swirl x. I was thinking of trying dc01 with da. dc02 then nxt 2.0 would that be the correct process?

Any hints & tips please? As I dont want to ruin his lights

I agree it would be an extra cost but I would like to do this for free as I have 3 of his cars to work on.

Like I said, same steps at paint correction.

To be safe, start with a less aggressive polish and move up to more aggressive.

Least to most aggressive. By all means do some tests spots first.

If the D/A (I use the PC7424XP) was my only polisher, I would suggest that you use it with M205 (4 dots on the pad) and a 4" polishing pad set at speed 6...This is always a safe combination to use to start with. If you would like to see a true visual, mask off a tape line and compare the difference...you will be amazed. After the M205, follow up with a 4" finishing pad and M21 (4 dots on the pad) set at speed 4.5 or so for your sealant application.

If the results after your first step are not satisfactory, you would then either try bumping up your pad or product to a more aggressive choice.....or the good ol rotary always does it!

Just curious is there any chance I can make the lights worse?

Any hints and tips anyone is willing to share please?
