  • using two wax products ok?

i have two quick question guys. I searched for them but came up with nothing...

First, if i were to apply a liquid wax, and then wanted to apply NTX 2.0 wax, can i do it within, say, 2 hours or do i need to wait longer? please explain your answer

Second, can using scratchX on a warm hood(not sun related, just been driven and then parked for a sort time,in the shade) damage your paint or clear coat?

    thanks in advance

It may be temperature dependant, but a lot of peeps wait 12 or more hours before applying a second coat. If it was really hot out, I don't see why you couldn't apply a second coat within 2-3 hours. Because I've heard many comments about waiting many hours before applying a second coat over NXT, tells me that this product needs sufficient time to cure/harden.

I prolly wouldn't apply NXT over a nuba based wax, as 1-2 coats of just NXT is all you would need, although some peeps like to apply a nuba on top of NXT.

No, scratchX will not damage the paint. If the paint is cool enough to work the product without it drying out, then work it.

Thanks for the quick reply bud. the reason i want to apply nxt over the liquid is because its a DC cleaner wax, so i have to use that first to get some sort of paint cleaner in there! LOL

Do you just say that because it would be a waste of time? Or is there some reason not to apply NXT over carnuba?

NXT will strip off any Carnuba Type Layer.

One process that I have been using and with the Meguiar product line, it all works together.

Most times I hit the car with #7 Show Car Glaze, Top with NXT 2.0, and once given some time to cure (recommended 12 but I generally give it 2hr) and then the last layer of #26 Hi-tech Yellow Wax. Last layer is always Ultimate Quick Wax for a good Water Barrier/wax booster.

How so? It has no real cleaning ability so it should be just fine over any other wax. Admittedly, however, the general consensus is to apply a sealant like NXT first and then a carnauba on top of it - if you even want or feel a need to do this. Some do, some just prefer two thin coats of either.

But in this case the OP is specifically talking about using Cleaner Wax first and then topping off with NXT. This is actually a great process, especially if done monthly to help prevent the build up of contaminants.

I took this from a post you had made when I was using the M07, NXT 2.0, and M26 Hi-tech Yellow.

I have to dig up another post but in it, basically described That putting down M26 first, then NXT 2.0 would essentially nullify the benefits of the Hitech Yellow.

Let me dig it up when I get a chance.

                Here it is.

My in-laws were away for the week and I had a great opportunity to do up my mother-in-law's Ford Fusion. It's a 07 or 08, 33k on the clock. Garaged and when cleaned, goes through a touchless wash but never have anyone really done a detail. Her car can be cluttered and neglected but overall I am very happy with the results. It

Andrew C mentioned about tweaking my process and coupled with a PM from Mike S. I took it that way. Not looking to spread miss info. But I think a good clarification would be in order.

Thanks to all. And an extra tank you too mr scoops for the answer i was looking for. As he stated, since im using a cleaner wax,i was sure that it would take the nxt benefits away if i used the CW second.

Not sure if i read the answer but how long do i have to wait inbetween these two? thanks

Not long at all. A while back I asked Mike Pennington this very question (in relation to ColorX) and he told me that I could top the ColorX almost immediately. I would probably wait 30 minutes, but I have no scientific data or testimony to support this practice.

I always try to wait at least 20-30 minutes before applying the 2nd coat. Regardless if it is the same or different type of wax/sealant.

There is absolutely nothing in that post of mine that would indicate NXT Tech Wax will remove a previously applied product - M07 is specifically mentioned in that post.

I'm afraid that Andrew misspoke here. While it is true that the "traditional" use of a sealant and a carnauba is to apply the sealant first and carnauba second, the reality is that NXT won't remove anything applied previous to it.

There are those who will insist that because of a single ingredient found in NXT that is often used in cleaner type waxes, that NXT is indeed a cleaner wax and will therefore remove a previously applied coat of a different product. But that particular ingredient is in such a small quantity in NXT that it is inconsequential as a cleaner. You'll get more "cleaning ability" from the applicator you use than you will from the NXT itself. And that holds true for any non-cleaner wax, pure polish, or other non abrasive product.

We apologize for any confusion surrounding this.
