  • 2 simple questions

been reading around and saw that it is recommended i wash my car in the shade...my question is, what would be a good time to wash my car when there's no shade? lol, seems a bit silly but i was hoping someone could steer me the correct way. only time my drive way gets shade is from like 6-8 in the morning..for the rest of the day, the sun is having its way with it.

should i just wash it at night or at sunset?

also, how important is the 5 gallon bucket? cuz i have a clean 2.5 gallon bucket laying around lol.

You just want the surface cool. Sunlight isnt the limit, but it tends to heat things up fast.

If you use 2 buckets, having the rinse one being 5 gallons (or that diameter if a little shorter) will make it easier to fit the Grit Guard in.

ahhh ok thanks...i looked around my town for a grit guard and had no luck...got a 5 gallon bucket but it's not new...guess that'll have to do as rinse bucket then.

i'll try washing the car at sunset or near that time

Grit Guards are pretty much an online purchase.

The shade suggestion is to ensure the surface of your car is cool. If you car has sat out for sometime with the sun baking on it, the surface temp will be much much higher. This can only lead to water spotting which is not good. If you try to work in the shade, the surface is cooler and gives you more time to work and much less chance of water spotting.

That said, early morning or late afternoon would be the preferred time for best results.

If that's what you have, it will work just fine. Just and make sure to use either 2 of them or a grit guard if possible.

                        Re: 2 simple questions

I live where the sun is hot and there's no shade. I use the mr clean autodry thing on the hose so the water is softened and I keep the whole car wet while I'm washing in the sun, then I immediately pull it into the garage for drying. It works even when its 90 degrees outside and I have a black car. Just have to keep wetting the whole car like every couple of minutes so it doesn't bake.

I suppose you could soap it in the garage if you don't mind the wet floor, then pull it out to rinse it off, then pull it back in for drying.
