  • Color X in the 5-steps paint care cycle

Hi Guys, I had been using Meguiars's Shampoo and wax for a few year now and I have to say that the results of changing to Meguiars were really good!

I bought a Fairlady this year and I have been healing the paint for some time now just using the cleaner wax. And the paint improved a lot over the time, however the other day I was exhausted and I went to a car washed for the first time in the last 5 years..! and I even took, my buckets, the shampoo and both of my wash mitt and explained to the guys how to do the two buckets wash.....! However the result in the end was worst than I expected, all the paint was full of swirls..! This is why I went to the store and bought all the things I was missing to do the 5 step paint care which takes me to my question...

Should I use my Color X in the waxing step? or maybe the cleaner wax?

by the way the results so far are incredible...! Meguiar's is definitelyworth the money...

ColorX is a nice product, here is how I would use it in the 5-step process:

    1. Wash
    2. Clay
    3. ColorX
    4. Wax

However, working by hand, it would not be my choice to remove swirls. You would want SwirlX or Ultimate Compound for that.

thanks for the reply. I used the ultimate compound and it worked great... the thing is that since I already polish with UC I'm not sure if by using Color X I would be polishing more than waxing...

You can certainly go UC, then wax and wax if everything looks good.

What are the benefits of using color X?.

          My usual is:-
          Clay
UC/ or Swirl X or both
          DC02 Polish
          Nxt Tech Wax 2.0

ColorX is a cleaner/wax, so it can be an entire detail if wanted.

Or, for doing a '5-step' detail, it just saves a step or two, so you can still cover all the steps. The results are still excellent, and great when time is short.

            1. Wash
            2. Clay
            3. Clean
            4. Polish
            5. Wax
            6. Wax

            1. Wash
            2. Clay
            3. ColorX
            4. Wax

ColorX is a fantastic cleaner wax but if rmatamorz is going to spend the time to do a full correction following his experience at the car wash, he may want something with more punch than this.

Ultimate Compound is going to be much more effective at removing the swirls instilled by the wash than ColorX will, hands down. But it really all depends what you want from the paint, how quickly you want it, and how much work you're willing to do. ColorX can be a fantastic follow up to UC as well.

Hi Michael, my arms are about to fall.. yesterday I worked on the paint for about 12 hours... I want my car to look amazing, just like a show car..

This is what I have done so far...

                    1- washed the car.
                    2- clay all the car.
2.1- used UC in all the car and in some parts I had to apply 2 to 3 times the product to get the same results in all the paint.
                    3- I'm using deep cristal 01 and 02

I haven't finish this part because of time and work but waiting to go home and continue my project. By the way since I drove my car to work should I clean it with a wet towel before continuing the process or maybe apply ultimate detailer or quick detailer and then contiue working on it.....?

4- For this step, I'm not sure if is ok to use Color X since it is also a wax or if I should use my cleaner wax. Or buying NXT wax.

5- In this step I will use Ultimate detailer....

                    THANKS IN ADVANCE...

                      3. If the paint looks good, you can go from UC to polish to wax, no need for DC1. The nDC1 as your mild cleaner in the future.

Applying QD after driving would be best, assuming light dust.

                      4. After a pure polish, you would want a wax, not a cleaner/wax.

You can see my reply to rapport about roughly how the steps would look with a 'full' detail, and a 'quick' detail.
