  • Just the basics please

    Hey Folks
I'm a self employed retired man who has always enjoyed detailing my own cars.I think I would want to detail a few for some spare money. I have the Porter D A and a pretty good high speed. My question is simply this. If you could only buy three Meguiar products, what would be the best basic ones to start with. Thanks so much

To answer your question, I would buy:
    1. Meguiar's Smooth Surface Clay Kit
    2. Ultimate Compound
    3. NXT 2.0 Tech Wax

These 3 products cover a giant scope of paint work. Claying is just very useful and necessary, many people have neglected finishes so UC would be better than something too benign, and Tech Wax is a great protectant.

The good thing about Ultimate Compound is that it can be worked in as little or as much as you need so theoretically, it could be a mild paint cleaner too if worked in for a short period of time.

i guess if your going to clay and wax, you could just use dish detergent

I like Dawn for incredibly dirty wheels, tires and wells but not so much for paint. I tried it out and I wasn't really a fan. I would go wtih NXT Car Wash for dirty vehincles.

Actually, take away Ultimate Compound and NXT Tech Wax 2.0 and add in place M66 Quick Detailer. It is a fairly strong and cheap Cleaner/Wax (24.99 for a gallon). Nick (Tuck91) is a bug fan of it. PM him about it.\

Keep the Smooth Surface Clay Kit, add some NXT Car Wash and then add a dressing of some kind. Supreme Shine is one of my favorites.

Yellow= polishing; small amount of cut
              Black= finishing; no cut

Maroon= not recommended to be used by DA; high level of cut

Its not really possible to limit yourself to just three products.

3 products is hard to do a complete detail.
                  What about tires?
                  Interior protectorant?
                  Paint correction?
                  wax.
The list goes on and on.
                  quality creates its own demand
