  • Multiple coats of Color X

    Hi All,

I am just giving my white car a detail as it has been a while

Just washed with Megs NXT wash, clay bar, after which I used some scratch x to remove some light scratches.

I noticed my paint was a bit dull oxidised, and a bit yellow/brown in parts, I went over this with Color X by hand and it has improved alot. There are still some patches that dont look right.

is it worthwhile doing another application of Color X?

I have NXT wax 2.0 which I plan on putting on next

    Thanks

    Clarky

Re: Multiple coats of Color X

From what I understand ColorX is the most aggresive a cleaner wax in the Meguiar's consumer line.
Each additional coat will be removing the previous coat, so for protection purposes, you are not getting additional layers of wax.

I would go over your trouble spots with ScratchX then follow up with your ColorX to protect those areas.

I agree with Michael. If the trouble spots are pretty bad, you might try Ultimate Compound in place of ScratchX.

Thanks guys, I will try that. I also have ultimate compound so I may go over some of the bad spots with that first, before I apply the NXT. Should I do two coats of the NXT?

Two thin coats of NXT is recommended.

Ah! In that case, correct your trouble spots with Ultimate Compound. It's simply more economical that way.

It's been said before-- only a very thin layer of NXT will adhere to your paint when you do the final wipe off.

The reasoning behing why many here will recommend "2 thin coats" is so that you can get nice even coverage. Hopefully your 2nd thin coat will cover any spots that you may have missed on your 1st coat.

To give you an idea of how thin you need to apply your NXT, here are some pictures of how little NXT was used during a wax (technically NXT is a sealant) job at Meguiar's HQ:
