Before you go the acid wash route. I would definitely give Mike Stoops recommendation a try.

What's happening is that the assorted pollutants fall on the paint then you wax over them or when you buy a new car you don't put a good initial coat of wax down. The stuff sits, then it begins a slow combining with the top clear coat and you get a molecular reaction of the pollutant with the paint. I guess you have to reactivate the acid reaction , then quench it with the alkaline wash . the acid softens the acid, then the alkaline neutralizes that reaction. Remember a base which is your alkaline , and the acid, balancing equations in chemistry !.
The super duty car wash then washes that chemical mix off. then you don't have to do much polishing. I have the ultimate compound and it really cleaned up aside of the hood the other night, real nice stuff. I stripped the wax on the spot I did because you
ve got to strip the wax so you're not compounding the wax but the paint. Then you go back and do the whole thing again, UC-swirlx-then the wax.
Since the trucks so scratched anyhow, I'm using it as a test platform so to speak. It's a pig, and no matter if you put a dress on a pig, it's still a pig.

I'm no expert and my experience is limited, but having struggled with water spot etching on my S2K I will hazard this guess: after you have worked on the test spot on the hood of your truck for a few hours, you will conclude that, even if you are making some progress, you need to find someone skilled with a rotary polisher to buff out the truck for you. This is a huge hand polishing job, but a detailer skilled with a rotary can get the job done for you in a day! Just saying ...

I had water spots on the hood of my S2K that I could not remove either by hand polishing (with M105!) or by dual action machine polishing (with M105). I finally asked young Dan Wendell, who is skilled with a rotary, to work on the hood. Zip zap ... they were gone! I need to add one qualification: there is still one etching spot that seems to be so deep that Dan was afraid to work on it any further. Perhaps wet-sanding will remove it, but that is for another day.

Actually if you look at my gallery there's a picture there of the hood and it's looking alot better.
Besides I've got a mess of tools anyhow.
and for the time being, time.
