  • Correct rubbing action with Foam Applicator and ScratchX

    Hi All,

Sorry if this has been answered before, I have searched and cannot find an answer.

I am new to using detailing products. I have a black car with some small scratches and I have worked out that ScratchX will be the best to use.

Anyway, I have the foam applicators ready to go

What is the correct way of rubbing the scratch with the foam applicator.

Do you use a circular motion over the scratch?
    OR
Do you use a rubbing motion along the scratch?
    OR
Do you use a rubbing motion across the scatch (eg if scratch is vertical then rub horizontally)
    OR
    A different way.

    Thanks,
    Rob

    hi there & welcome

firstly are you trying to remove light swirls or randome isolated scratches?,

whatever it may be, SwirlX will be best choice for removing light swirls of light scratches all over the car,

whereas Scratch X 2 very good product for removing a bit deeper isolated scratches.

whichever you choose the direction of applying is completely inappropriate, as meguiars produce top quality cleaners that do not burnish finish unlike other cleaners on market so it is entirely up to you whether you prefer straight or circular, however you should find that circular will work better as a more uniform coat is spread out and requires some less effort compared to straight line applying, just make sure not to apply tooo much pressure to pad otherwise you will end up adding new scratches to finish. work managable areas, apply for a minute or so then wipe off insuring not to dry the product, as only waxes need to dry before wiping anything else (pure polish or cleaners) don't need to dry, hope this helps.

      Thanks for your reply.

Sorry, should have mentioned these are definetely isolated scratches (not swirl marks). Probably people rubbing against the car in parking lots.

Thanks for the detail of using the products.. I am now confident and eager to try it.

If they are straight line scratches, you can work across them to try and knock down the edges. This is esp good if the scratch is too deep, and can just be improved.
