I guess it would depend on the price point. I mean they would have to be cost effective to make sense.

I still like the old fashioned way. Use a sharpie marker. This pad is for this, etc, etc. No chance for cross contamination that way either.

I hate cleaning pads manually, buying special cleaner, mixing it, etc and the washing machine often damages the pad. If it works AND is cost effective, it's a dream come true for me.

My guess is they cannot be any cheaper than $5 range. The 4-in pads cost over $5. The foam is not different and it is a different shape so the mfg cost may be higher.

I am sure in the mass production oem business this will cut their costs but most everyone else you will pay more for less -- or people will try to clean them.

Forgive me if this is a rude question but what happened to Mike ******* leg?

I just watched the video and felt really bad for him.

            Check out this thread:

Mike, if it's not too forward of a question (and since Mindflux broached the subject), may I inquire as to how you lost your leg? I must admit, I have

I agree with ya, depending on how cheap they are would be a big factor on my interests. I have 3 yellow and one black pad that I've been using since I got them over a year ago, all 3 still work like a charm!

Don't feel bad for him, Mike has shown us time and time again that those who have lost a limb for whatever reason can perform as well.....if not better then those who haven't. I have a cousin who lost part of his left leg in Iraq, same time that I was there but never knew till I got back to the states. Anyhoo, if he has pants on, you would have never been able to tell that he has a prosthetic leg, he walks as well as anyone else and stays active.
I didn't know until today what had happened to Mr Phillips. I believe he is more of an inspiration for what he went thru and to not let a handicap bring him down.....a true UNDERDAWG!

I just throw them in the washing machine after a detail and they are good as new.

Are all pads washing machine safe? I thought only SoftBuf 2.0 are and the original SoftBuf could not be washed in the clothes washer.

Thanks for the link Ciera - that explained much.

I assumed it was something recent and thought he may be finding it emotionally difficult, but he's had it 30 years and is great example of not letting serious setbacks cripple your life. But then again, we're all different and have different coping skills.

                    Sorry to hi-jack the thread.

                      That's okay, Paul.

According to Lake Country Mfg. there will be running some promotional sales at the end of the year through their distributors.

Re: Lake Country 1-pad polishing system

The System has been launched. It requires a purchase of a special Tri- Density backing plate ($43.99), which is very durable and flexable. A set of 3 disposable pads costs $19.99.

As an introduction offer for $43.99 they have backing plate and 3 pads of choice. 1-pad System is limited to rotary buffers only.

Here are some interesting aspects to consider:

                            1. product cross contamination - disposable pads guarantee that there's nothing transfered,
                            2. thin surface of the pad - we only use about 0.5" of top layer of our pads,
                            3. loss of pad's original buffing ability - after several washes our pads become less effective (less cut, polishing pads start acting more like finishing pads, etc),
                            4. time saving - no need to wash and dry pads,
                            5. flexibility - 1-pad System works great on curved areas,
                            6. pad's physical damage - worn outs, accidents during buffing.

This System is definitely not suitable for everybody but some detailers will find it worthy. Now we have an extra option provided by Lake Country.
