  • Chrome Wheels?

Alright, so I am tired of guessing and am an idiot when it comes to wheels. It sounds ridiculous to me to ask this question, but with polished alum, chrome, chrome plated alum, clear coat, painted and all the other things I read I basically have no idea what kind of wheels any are when I look at them. I also understand if you use the wrong product you can damage the wheels.

Currently I am working on a 2008 Infiniti QX56 and the wheels certainly look like chrome to me but how can I be sure? I found a sticker in the glove box that says "20' Chrome Aluminum Wheels" - great info, thanks sticker.

I am going to try to post a pic. Any and all guidance on what I have here and how to tell in the future is appreciated. Also, some recommendations for the best product to use would be great.

    Thanks

Try a test spot. Use some Hot rims mag and aluminum polish. If it turns your towel black. They are uncoated. Continue on the whole wheel. If there is no black on your towel they probable are clear coated. Then treat them like paint.

Chrome Aluminum Wheels as opposed to Chrome Steel Wheels. They are chrome plated aluminum.

So what your saying is that if it is coated, treat like paint and it doesn't matter if what metal they are. If it is uncoated, then I need to figure out if it is chrome or alum or whatever if I want to use a specific product?

Alright, I thought this might be the case. So based on what I am hearing, I now need to find out if they are coated or not. If not, then I would use an AIO or a "chrome" specific product. Is this right?

            Chrome is probably not coated.

To confirm - I need to use hot rims chrome polish right?

I would try it in a inconspicuous spot. Maybe the back side of the rim.
