    Re: paint reflections problem

Heres a couple of pics of a fiesta St I detailed. 18hrs to detail this neglected 2yr old car. It was subjected to car washes from day 1

Look how deep the colour is and how reflective the paint is now.

    Before & after shots

    Also my pearl black VW

Basically your technique sounds bang on apart from no clay bar . Get a clay bar and get the rewards for your hard work.

You have to remove the above surface bonded contaminants first. Then clean the paint. Otherwise you are just smearing the contaminants around. The machine was probably taking down the high spots of the contaminants. That is why it felt smoother to you. Get the clay kit. You will see a difference.

ok cheers for advise, i think that is what i will do then, i never thought that clay has that much significance, so a cleaner polish doesn't actually remove above surface contaminents then, it just spreads them around?

ok sure will matey. but that wouldn't be soon, i'll have to wait till i get a chance, also when applying clay, i wouldn't have to re-clean paint with a cleaner would i?

            cheers.

The clay removes above surface contaminants. Now you have to clean the paint.

fine, however the fact that i just UC'd the finish about a week or so ago, do i still have to apply it again., does a clay bar scratch? also can you just give me a quick guide how to clay, how much bar to use for a whole car, how much detailer to spray etc?

                cheers

Pull apart the clay bar into 3 pieces.
                  Flatten into a pancake.
                  Lightly mist a 2'x2' section.
Place clay bar in palm of your hand.
                  work the misted section.
                  Apply moderate pressure
Wipe dry with a clean microfiber.
Knead the clay so a clean side is showing.
                  repeat above steps.

Don't forget. you can also clay your exterior glass You will be amazed at the difference.
