  • Bugs on Blue

How can you remove them once they're dried on?
I bought my 08 Tacoma used and the bugs on the front were included.
I have tried a couple of different bug and tar removers and it helped slightly but for the most part they are still there.
The truck is dark blue (indigo ink) and the bugs stand out even after a good bath.

You could try using a pressure washer from a safe distance.

Followed by soap and water and a clean bug sponge.

That is how I got the most of it off.
I used the high pressure soap and rinse at the local car wash (just on the bugs). Then I followed up with a hand wash and bug sponge and some elbow grease. There was still some remnants left so I tried the bug and tar remover. After all of that there is still some marks left on the bumper.
My brother used some sort of rubbing compound trying to help and that just dulled the paint.

Any bug marks left after a thorough cleaning, bug sponge, and bug/tar remover... I'd say the next step would be to clay whatever has embedded itself. Just a thought...

I hadn't heard of the fabric softener thing. I will give it a try.

I did clay the entire truck and the finish is much smoother but the bugs are still there.
Actually, the bugs are gone but their imprint is still there. It really stands out on the dark color. I will try to post a pic this weekend (it's always dark before I get home).

            Thanks for all the advise!

If it is not bug remains on the paint, but etching into the paint, then you will need to treat it like a water spot/swirl/scratch, and use a paint cleaner to remove the etching.

"etching" that's the best description for it.
I ordered the swirlx and deep crystal polish products a couple of days ago to get rid of or hide the swirls I put in when washing/drying. (wish I had discovered this forum earlier)
Is it possible that the swirlx will help with the bug etching or should I look at a different product?

                  There's nothing left to remove.

If you have a machine, you'll have to go over the area that your brother did by hand to remove the hazing, and maybe you can reduce some of the imprints/etching. There is a possibility that some of the etching will remain, so you'll have to live with it, but you can certainly make it shiny by buffing with a machine such as a PC.

I haven't tried swirlx yet, so I don't know, but I do know swirlx is one of the mildest products by Meguiars. You always want to start with the least aggressive method first, then move up. If the etchings are anything like what I have worked on in the past, my guess is swirlx will not cut the mustard. You just may need something stronger than swirlx, but again, that is a guess.

You can try working in with some passion a couple applications over those spots.

Keep in mind, depending how bad/deep, you may only be able to improve, not remove.

I'll give it a go with the dryer sheet and once the swirlx arrives I will try that also.
I have never used a machine and am a little nervous to try.
My brother will loan me his DA once the swirlx and deep crystal arrive.

What order should I apply these 3 products?
                        (1) Swirl-X
                        (2) Deep Crystal polish
                        (3) NXT Tech Wax (paste)

Thanks again for all the help and info!

I tried that a couple of weeks ago with nearly no results.

No pics this weekend. Rain most of Saturday and the first half of today.
I did manage to get a wash in but it was nearly dark before I finished.
My Meguiar order arrived Thursday so maybe this coming weekend I can
try the swirlx. I sure hope it does the trick, keeping my fingers crossed.
