  • Which one to buy?!

I need to buy a buffer/polisher withing the next day or two, I was looking at a couple of these inexpensive buffers/polishers. All of these buffers are around 70-90$:

    -Neiko (1.75hp)
    -Steelman 97565
    -Amstar 3002
    -ATD 51011
    -Black and Decker wp107b
    -Kustom Shop

All of them are 1000-3000 rpm except for kustom shop which is 600-3000. Anybody have info on any of these?? I know i'm probably thinking too hard but 100$ is alot of money when your going to school..

Any info or opinions would be appreciated!

You are spending so close to the amount of a g110v2 or a GG6 that I would save up another month or two and get one of those.

Seeing that you live in the frozen tundra. I would wait it out to next detailing season. The G110v2.0 makes a great Christmas gift. lol.

I mean your so close to getting a great machine instead of a "glorified" wax spreader. Save you money and get a quality machine that can do paint correction also. Just my 0.02.

Have you taken into consideration with the $100 limit that you will also have to buy backing plates and pads? All of the machines you have listed are cheap low quality polishers.

How about getting a used Porter Cable. See, e.g., this Ebay auction.

Maybe there's someone here on MOL who is willing to sell their old G100 polisher.

Do yourself a favor and save a little more and get a reputable DA like the G110v2, PCXP, etc. You'll be more happy in the long run and it's definitely money well spent.

He's absolutely right. There's a quantum leap between the polishers you have listed and the dual action polishers that the folks here on MOL use. Don't waste your money. Save your pennies and get the machine that will do the work you want it to do!

so the meguiars and pc da above would better suite me than a decent orbital buffer? i need to get the 2000 marks out of an entire truck. planning on using m105 and m205.

                    The guys are correct.
The fine smell of quality lasts long after the stink of low price has faded.

The guys are correct. You are not going to need a polisher till spring. Save up and get a good quality one. It will last many years and you will enjoy it each time you use it.

It is a steep learning curve to go from doing details by hand to a rotary. Much higher potential to do unrepairable damage to your paint. Get a G110v2.0. They are more user friendly.

Garrick, to use a DA polisher to remove the sanding marks from the entire truck will take you a really long time. Trust me.
I guess everybody's main concern is your level of experience. You can't jump to a rotary buffer league without practicing on random-orbital (DA) polishers first. You need to learn how to walk before you run.
Here's the tricky part: we don't know what kind of final results we're going to get on your paint with DA. They may be to your satisfaction or they may be far away from your expectations. I saw cars after DA sanding mark removal under halogen light and there were many traces left behind.
Michael wants you to play safely and get yourself familiar with DA polishers first. I think Griot's Garage 6" DA has the most power. Also Meguiar's G110v2 with cruise control will guarantee your machine rotates under pressure.
I guess there was a lot of confussion brought to you regarding the preffered method of correction but it looks like you have a plan to improve your detailing skills and get this job finished.
There was a similar thread back on August 16th, 2010 titled "After wet sandin". Take a look at it through Search engine.
