cracked paint?

hello,

i've got a couple areas on my hood where it looks like the paint is cracking. '08 4runner. initially i believed, as did friends, that it was tree sap. but i didn't try to remove it at the time, because i wasn't sure, and now it looks like there is a small spot within the area (on the left) where metal is showing through. i'm not really sure. any idea what this is? i would try to solve it myself by applying tar remover or goo-gone or something, but if it's cracked paint i can only imagine that hurting.

and if it is cracked, how did that happen??

Looks like clear coat failure!!

Is the paint flaking off from there??

Bad paint work I would beleive. IF under warrentee most manufacture have a warrentee on rust/rot. Basically once that happens they will fix it.

i don't think anything is flaking off, i haven't really been trying to touch it besides running a washing glove over it when cleaning. but like i said, it does appear there is a small spot on the left where i can see metal!

no way this would be covered under warranty, right?? i have 2k left on my warranty. never would have thought that for a second had blackscreaminmachine not said something. any advice or thoughts on that would be appreciated.

if that doesn't work, is there anything i can do for damage control?

after some browsing, looks like there is almost no chance through toyota. even though i know there was no bird dropping there, they could just claim acid rain or something environmental and it's over.

so, any thoughts on damage control would be appreciated. not trying to repaint my hood yet..

i do plan on going to a body shop (for their opinion) and then toyota either this afternoon or tomorrow. will update then. thanks
