  • OPC Rims + NXT Metal Polysh

    Hi Guys,

I already made a post but it didnt upload...

Anyways, lets try again: I've got an Astra OPC with the following rims...

There's some scratches and visible oxidation on the outer lip. Is it safe to use NXT Metal Polysh on the lip? Surely if it was clear coated no oxidation would've occured?

    Any help is appreciated!!

    Thanks,
    MaX

Re: OPC Rims + NXT Metal Polysh

After being inundated with responses from people in the know I tried something last night...

I used some ScratchX 2.0 on the rim. To my surprise it left microfibre cloth black, as described in about 4 000 000 posts in the forum, as on a polished surface.

After a bit of elbow-grease, the oxidation marks was still visible. So now the new question:

Seeing how the ScratchX clearly also removed some stains, albeit not all of it, will the NXT Metal Polysh perform better? Anyone ever compared Scratchx2.0 vs NXT Polysh?

Why not just go buy regular metal polish off the local supermarket shelf and then just treat the surface afterward with some wax?

Products for bare metal are stronger than products for paint, so a paint cleaner is safe for metal, but not the other way around.

But yes, if you surface is bare metal, Nxt will be a good choice to follow up with.

So it would appear that these wheels have painted spokes and a bare, polished lip. NXT All Metal Polysh would then be an excellent choice for cleaning up the polished areas, but you should stay with a dedicated paint cleaner for the painted portions of the wheels. You can apply a coat of wax to both surfaces when finished if you so desire.

Thanks bud, a little bit late response but i did exactly what you suggested anyway

I quickly polished the Lip when i got home last night and it removed all the nasty marks, still not quite the shine im looking for and there are a bunch of scratches still to content with but i reckon a bit of elbow-grease should do the trick!

You can also try #000 steel wool with the metal polish. Just like you would to polish exhaust tips.
Those wheels look cool - wish I had them on my Astra GTC!

Hey Max - I'd definitely try the NXT All Metal Polysh with a bit of elbow grease and patience.

As an aside - where in SA are you based? If you're anywhere close to the Jhb area, you should consider coming to the detailing day to be held on 9th October. If you're not yet a member of our local forum, come on over and sign up.
