  • Tire Cleaner, other than endurance

So I have been using Meguiars Endurance Tire Shine on my tires, and it works great, and I love how it looks, and it does last quite a while, the only thing I don't like is how to put it on. I'm not a fan of the gel, with the applicating pad, I always end up getting lots stuck inbetween the ridges/writing on the tires, or it is tough to get it covered everywhere, and any excess that is hiding just flings off. I try to remove as much as I can, but it always seems I end up with it not 100% perfect. The thing I do like about the gel is that I can clean my rims first, and then do my tires, without having anything running or dripping on the rims when I do the tires.

Does anyone have any suggestions on a different tire cleaner I could use, or should I maybe just work with Endurance a bit more and try to refine my process?

    Thanks!

Endurance is a dressing. If you want a proper cleaner, you would want APC, or APC+, etc. And a clean tire can help reduce sling.

As far as your process, do you go back to remove excess at all? An old terry cloth dabbed/pressed against the tire seems to do well for me with liquid dressings to remove excess, and not knocking down the shine too much.

I use a brush like this to apply tire dressing. The fine abundant bristles allow me to apply dressing in between the rim and the tire without applying excess dressing. The same goes for the raised lettering in the tires. I'm not a fan of applying dressing with a foam applicator pad or a cloth, because I find what happens is exactly what you are describing. When the applicator hits a raised letter it leaves excess dressing. When trying to dress the area near the rim, it tends to vacuum the dressing out of the applicator and into the void between the tire and rim until you drive and then it slings it all over.

I personally don't have a need to wipe off excess dressing when I use this brush because I can easily control the amount of dressing applied. This prevents waste.
If there is excess dressing in one area I can use the brush to absorb it and then reapply the dressing to the remainder of the tire.

As Murr1525 mentioned, a terry cloth dabbed works well for removing excess drssing. The key here is to dab. If you wipe, often lint will be introduced to your tire and you won't actually wick up the excess dressing from the places in which it likes to hide.

Funny, I was just thinking about the same thing last night while washing the car. I love endurance..but sometimes hate the application. Especially with my tires...they are far from a smooth surface which makes it very tough to apply evenly.

Perhaps, I'm getting too picky...asking for a great product to be even better.

For me, the best way to apply the gel is by paint brush. Then a while later, wipe off the excess.

I am also a big fan of apc to clean the tires. Works very well IMHO.
