  • M16 Users..we have a winner

Murr suggested that if one leaves ColorX on 24 hours, it cures better. I asked if that was the same for M16, and the reply was yes. Well as we M16 users know, apply thin, and it is not really hard to take off anyway just waiting for the swipe test. I am preparing to do my 3rd quarter detail, and tested leaving the M16 on 24 hours in a small panel area. . Sahzammmm...it seems to be easier to take off.

Goes against my opinion..if it is easy...it "ain't" worth it". But I love #16. It lasts though the winter, and beads up at least four months later after a salty, miserable, Buffalo winter. It is too bad they don't make this stuff anymore. I bet zillions NXT is a poor replacement..no VOC..however, I have not tried it yet.
I should buy some, and do one panel..and see how it behaves, compared to #16

Why isn't M16 available anymore?, sounds likes it was good stuff.

If it's 90+ degree's out, I don't think it's absolutely necessary to let it sit for 24 hours before wiping off. I've left M16 on for 45 minutes in near 100 degree temps, and the stuff came right off.

The EPA banned M16 due to the amount of VOC's. I have about 10-11 tins of the stuff

Is it available outside the states?

In my case, patience is not the problem, but dust certainly is. Several hours after washing my car, I can see a light layer of dust that has settled on the surface. Unfortunately, this is just a natural part of the environment where I live.

If I had to leave a wax on my car for several hours before buffing the residue off, I would have a layer of dust that has settled on top of the residue. The thought of buffing off a layer dust covered wax residue is nightmare inducing, as I imagine the dust + residue combo acting like sandpaper and instilling swirls and scratches.

I would much rather wax and buff off the residue as soon as the swipe test indicates it is ready to be removed and then leave the car for the wax/sealant to do it's thing and cure properly on the surface.

You can also get it at eshine in Canada. And yes, it is fantastic stuff.

We might want to wait for some clarification from Murr on this, but we're pretty sure that by "cure time" he was referring to the amount of time recommended between applying coats of product, not the "dry time" or "haze time" that is usually associated with the amount of time allotted between application and wipe off. Dry time and cure time tend to be two different things.

That said, if to your eyes you're seeing a positive difference with no downside, then it's really hard for us to tell you not to do it. However, and this is important, there are a lot of variables that could cause a similar process to backfire for someone else. A heavy coat could become extremely difficult to wipe off after this length of time (and we all how common it is for someone to apply waaaay too much wax!!!). High humidity could cause the hazed wax to start drawing moisture out of the air, again leading to difficult removal or even streaking.

We are always fine with people experimenting and thinking outside the box. Just remember that you do so at your own risk.

Well, sort of. The EPA, AQMD, CARB, etc are changing regs all the time and we and everyone else has to keep up. If we can make a slight formulation change that keeps us within some new reg and maintains the integrity of the product, we do it. Sometimes, however, a new reg would cause us to so severely alter a product as to seriously compromise it's performance. When faced with the choice of releasing a badly diminished version of M16 or just retiring it, we chose the latter.

I'll back you up on this... if you apply a thick coat of M16 and let it fully dry and set-up for about an hour, it's going to wipe off like dried concrete and probably break your arm in the process.

I've used M16 for years before discussion forums were invented and applied both thin and thick coats either experimenting or due to lack of knowledge and experience and it's nickname as to being a "True Hard Wax", or "Heavy Wax", is accurate.

This past weekend, finally applied it to the wife's car. She does not want to drive it. It has been a garage queen since Monday. lol. She says it looks too good to take it out. (but then she say's this every time I detail her car, which is quite often.) This is the first time she has not driven it tho.

                            The power of #16. lol.
