  • SwirlX on a new car?

i have a bmw with a new paint finish and the car always looks amazing after a wash. i am planning on waxing it soon and noticed i have some water marks and a few scratches on the finish. i have heard swirlx takes the "new car shine" out of your finish and i am afraid that if i use it my car will end up looking worse than if i just waxed it. is this true? and if i dont need the produce for swirls what should i use to get ris of water marks and 2 to 4 fine scratches?

Re: How often can/should I use SWIRL X?

vcostanzo, if you haven't read it yet, I commend this article: Meguiar's 5-Step Paint Cycle.

First off, vcostanzo, welcome to MOL.

Second, we moved your post (and Al's response) to it's own thread rather than have it hanging on to an older thread about a slightly different discussion.

Third, we'd love to know where you heard that SwirlX takes the "new car shine" out of your finish ? If anything, the opposite is true. The vast majority of new cars we see, whether already at home with the new owner or still sitting in the showroom, have not yet reached their maximum potential. There is a huge difference between a "showroom shine" and a "show car shine". SwirlX will, if anything, take you from the former to the latter.

NEVER heard that! It's probably the polar opposite that will happen, considering most new cars have noticeable swirls upon delivery.

If I can chime in, I recently bought a (new to me) 2009 Rav4. The paint is on the pretty soft side and the dealership obviously used a tunnel wash prior to "detailing" the vehicle for delivery. Once the weather actually permitted me to do a halfway decent exterior detail (this past Monday). After washing and claying, I used SwirlX with a light polishing pad to remove the majority of spiderwebbing and swirls. As a general rule, most dealerships use a defect hiding glaze that does add gloss and hide defects( remeber dealerships use a fast and loose process to "detail"). The problem lies in that the glaze effects are short lived and the "real" finish is revealed shortly afterwards (first rain/wash)

5-step Paint Cycle is the key to keep your "new" car new. I have a new car and use either DC1 or SwirlX to remove water spots. Always start with the LEAST aggressive product.
