  • How to avoid tire spray getting onto brake discs??

    Hello everyone,

Last week I picked up a bottle of NXT Insane Shine tire aerosol spray. Yesterday I sprayed it onto my tires. This morning when I was driving it around in carpark, I found that the brakes of the car require much harder stepping pressure on pedal than before. I guess it is due to some of the tire spray getting onto the brake discs.

Is there any proper way of spraying the tire foams/sprays to avoid overspray on brakes?? This is related to safety and I would like to see how Meguiar's recommend users to use the products properly.

    Dennis.

I'd think to make that happen, you'd have to miss the tire pretty good? I've never had an issue with braking after applying an aerosol dressing. Make a wheel cover out of cardboard or something, to cover the whole wheel (and effectively, the brakes) while spraying the dressing. That'll also keep overspray off of the wheel too. No need to have to go back and re-wipe the wheel down.

      +1

I made a cardboard one, used a small length of rope for a handle then covered it in duct tape. Works like a charm!

Wow , thats what I was gonna say . I was reading the question thinking that I've never had that problem with aerosol tire spray, I was about to suggest making a card board cut out. Then I read you response and I'm like O nvm ! LOL

I did the cardboard cover with two slots in the middle for a hand hold covered with duct tape. The size of the slots you will need varies based on the size of your hand.

Gosh, wouldn't that just burn off the first time the brakes were applied? I am sure I got lots of that stuff on the rotors at one time or another.

              My thoughts exactly.

That's pretty much the case. Not that I'd recommend soaking them but a little overlap won't last long at brake temps.

I will try to make some kind of rim cover next time.
                  Thanks for the tips!

Should always cover up your rims before applying the tire spray, it will make life that much easier.

The was a company call Wheelneat that sold these adjustable wheel covers. Pretty neat for a detailer in that you can adapt them to multiple wheel sizes.

As you can see, you were able to put your adverting on them.

I did see them for sale at Canadian Tire years ago.

An adjustable wheel cover would be great!!! I've got 15", 16" 17" and on occasion, 18" wheels to dress!

Bill, That looks like it would be great. Neat idea.

I am like everybody else here, I found a piece of cardboard. I used a string and a marker to get a pretty good circle to cut out and it has worked fine for me.

how long does the cardboard last you??
wonder if I can cut a piece of plastic to cover my wheels up...
