  • do it by hand or get a DA poisher?

    Hello all,

I'm preparing for first ever full on wash, clay, polish, & wax regime on a new vehicle of mine. I'm pretty confident in my ability to get this all done by hand. I've been browsing the website for weeks now, just reading and learning from all of you, and I'm feeling pretty confident here. I don't mind working with my hands and I'm not worried about all of the work that will be that this kind of job entails. I am kind of worried about time though. Right now i know I can set aside the majority of a day to really work over a car, but it might not always be the case in the future.

I'm pretty curious about a Meguiar's G110v2 polisher right now. My first job was washing and clean up on vehicles at a car dealership, but I never got a chance to use a buffer or polisher either one. I've never used one period.By all accounts this one is very user and rookie friendly, and perfect for beginers.

My question is would this tool be a big time saver? I've watched the video's so I don't doubt its effectiveness in the least, but I just wonder if it makes a job like this quicker to complete?

    Many thanks in advance!

Much, much quicker for defect removal. Hour's... days perhaps.
Waxing, it doesn't save too much time (if any), but it's a nice novelty.

Does your new car have many defects?

If not, Wash, Clay, ColorX, Wax doesnt take very long by hand, and wont be labor intensive.

No defects on it yet, so I wasn't planning on using any paint cleaners, just polish and wax.

I say if it needs clay, it needs a cleaner. But that is up to you. Either way, at this point you'll just be wiping stuff around. Maybea little longer, but nothing difficult.

Defect removal is where the machine does so much better.

If it is in your budget, by all means get one. It really steps up your detailing skills a few notches. You are correct. They are very user friendly.

both. depends on what i gotta do. remember the machine is a tool. some people tend to assume that if you use a machine it will miraculously make every thing very good. things good go turn for the worst when the right tools are used on the wrong job and v.v.
But that's just me. Hope that helped though...

                Definitely a DA,
You'll save a ton of time and effort. Especially for medium to heavy defect removal. You could probably tackle light swirls and imperfections by hand, but heavy defects; probably not .

Having the DA allows you to do the work with much less stress on your body and to do some deeper level correction work that either just takes forever or you just can't do by hand.

I just started using the Meguiar's polisher this year and have never used one before. It's likely the best investment I've made. Does a beautiful job, easy to use, and makes the job so much easier. You'll wonder why you never had one before. Hope that helps.

If you plan on polishing your car by hand you need to set DAYS aside as it takes a good majority of the day to do a full detail with a DA Polisher.

                          Thanks for the advice guys.

I guess it was slightly misleading of me to say I was planning to use a clay kit. What I mean is I will have one on hand in case I need it after doing some touch tests, but I really don't expect to need it. No real defects in the paint that I can see or feel right now, so I won't really need the DA for that yet, but I am thinking it'll be nice to have on hand if ever needed for that.

I'm going to look into getting one, but probably go ahead with my "by hand" plans to see how that works out.

                            Use the clay for sure.

Definitely use the clay kit. I have detailed cars within weeks of them being purchased. Everyone of them benefited from the clay.
