  • #80 Question

I have been looking hard at #80. My understanding is this is a quick polish with a little bit of cleaner and a lot of oils. My wife has a 2010 black lexus rx350. The day I brought it home, I used clay and then double coated with NXT 2.0. It's been about 3 months and I am ready to bring it in the garage again.

The paint is in really good condition with no visible swirls in sunlight. I won't have a lot of time with it and really don't think it needs a Swirlx or #205 cleaning (at least I am trying to avoid it anyway). So I am thinking I can use the #80 after clay, hoping it will further the cleaning and add polish to be sealed by NXT (then maybe a carnauba topper since it's black). If it works it could be a good process for me for new'ish cars.

Is my thinking correct on the #80? My other thought was maybe ColorX but I was thinking #80 since the paint is in good condition?

    Re: #80 Question

Colorx is much milder than M80. If there are not alot of swirls then you may want to go with Colorx as it will clean, polish and wax. It is a fantastic product!

      Re: #80 Question

SwirlX, #205, and #80 are all comparable as far as strength, #205 being the milder.

But yes, your idea is good. ColorX is also a good choice, it is a medium strength cleaner/wax, but that still makes it fairly mild overall.

Your thinking is right on. You might want to go with the color-x if your paint is in that great of shape. You know least aggressive first.

          Re: #80 Question

Very glad I asked this question.. I was thinking of #80 as a really fast off and on deposit of mostly oils - more polish than correction. A product that you didn't really "work" like you do Swirlx. Kinda like #7 with a littler cleaner in it and easier to remove. I think maybe the "speed glaze" terminology was throwing me off.

I certainly want something mild and quick here. My concern with ColorX (which I have but, have never used) is the "wax". I don't want to be putting on any "wax" since I am coming back with NXT. Maybe I am unclear what exactly ColorX does too.

            Re: #80 Question

ColorX followed by Nxt is a great combo, no worries there. ColorX just cleans, has some polishing oils, and leaves wax behind if you let it dry before removing.

#9 would be milder than #80.

              Re: #80 Question

Ok, so go with ColorX but remove before it fully dries?

Thanks Murr - your advice has served me well previously so I'll give it try.

                Re: #80 Question

You can remove it first to prevent most of the wax.... but really, I'd let it dry and use it as your first coat of wax.

                Up to you.

                  Re: #80 Question

I would let it dry like a regular application. Then top it with the NXT.

Hey I just read the description on Colorx and it said best applied with an applicator. I can use this with my DA right? Or do I need to find a similar Professional Line product?

Hey - How long does ColorX need to cure before applying NXT? I am hoping not 12 hours.
