  • Why does the wax do this to me?

How come when r I use NXT 2.0 or Ultimate Quik wax, after removing I get left with "smudges" of dark and lighter colors all around my car? What causes the wax to cause this weird appearance on my car? It happens after I clay and prepare the surface, or just doing a touch-up wax. Weather I apply by hand or with my PC... I do not know how to avoid it and it drives me nuts. My brother had the same problem on his car today using NXT 2.0... My car black, his orange. I do not know how to avoid it.

To best describe it, when your finished looking at the hood for example, it looks like smudges of darker areas and other areas lighter. If you put muscle behind it with a spray it will someway clear up, but does not go away.

I apply lightly (thin coat) and still have this issue. It is driving me away from Meguiars LSP's... I have this problem everytime almost, regardless of what I do. Thin coats, brand new microfibers, etc...

    Any help?

Did you use the Swipe Test?

It sounds to me like the wax wasn't yet dry, and therefor smeared during removal.

Re: Why does the wax do this to me?

I have done the swipe test, and it wipes away just fine!

This, and the fact I have let the wax cure for up to an hour sometimes. I will wipe it off and have this issue. Then let it sit for another hour and try again. It just is an endless cycle.

And like I said, I have applied it VERY thin with PC or by hand and have the same problem. I do not know why I have such a bad issue with this. I have not always, it seems more recent since NXT 2.0 came out that it has started.

I have been detailing for a few years now, and this is one of the few things that stumps me. Even applying quik detailer and trying to remove it that way does not help that much. It takes quite a bit of work to really get it away.

So your guess is I am not letting it set long enough? Any other guesses?

I know exactly what your talking about, its hard to describe but it happens to me sometimes. What I do is, when wipeing off, use one side of your microfiber to wipe off most of the residue and then flip it and buff lightly. This works for me.

Also, I think this is cause because the wax goes on heavier in some spots.

I let my wax dry for 30 mins sometimes and it occasionally still happens ( only on the hood for somereason )

That is exactly it... Except it can be VERY difficult to remove. I have tried multiple (new) microfibers and the ultimate quik wax was terrible today when I used it... Ugh...

I need some type of tip for this not to happen!

I also believe the wax has not fully dried. Was multiple swipe tests done? Did you follow the same pattern in removing the wax as applying?

I could use that tip too, although it doesnt bother me too much , just takes a little extra effort

Re: Why does the wax do this to me?

I usually apply my LSP with my PC to get an even, thin coat.

I will start at the hood and do the entire car. Takes about twenty minutes.

I then go back with a foam pad and do under the door handles, tricky areas, trim sections, etc...

I then usually do the glass and such before coming back to the wax. Do a swipe test and it is fine.

Go to remove and sometimes I just get this weird two tone effect. Even letting it sit up to an hour. Just is a pain sometimes, especially when you spend hours and hours detailing and hope to get perfection afterward.

Maybe I will just have to try being extremelllllly stingy with the coating of wax. I really try to get very thin, but maybe that is not thin enough. It is a pain.

Same thing happens to me sometimes, you are just using too much product most likely. Make sure you give it enough time to dry as well. The Swipe test usually works, but if the surface is hot, or it's humid out sometimes you need to wait longer.

Using a quick detailer type product will sometimes not remove the darker areas, but yes additional elbow grease does work.

Hey guys I'm new to this but I too have experienced this same problem, in fact, just this past week. I've not figured out how to get past the UQW problem but I found something that works after applying paste or liquid wax. I mist it with QD and it helps. I got the idea from my father-in-law who uses a damp terry cloth after waxing and gets the same result. I've sworn off of UQW until I find a solution.

Wait, Do you guys use polish before you wax? Cause not removing the polish proparly will cause it too, I just remembered that I polished my car and then waxed, thats when I noticed it last

Another thing just came to mind. Did you vigorously shake up the product before and during use?

Re: Why does the wax do this to me?

I do, yes. I shake that thing up like crazy before and also during use.

I get this issue if I apply polish before or not. I have got this problem both ways. The polish does not seem to be the cause of (my) problem.

I just detailed my hood last night but I used the carnauba plus wax, and I did not have this issue (thank god). I clayed, used a little #80 and finally the LSP. I almost think this stuff works easier than NXT 2.0 as well. Which is fine, this stuff looks so good!

                          Anyway...

I am sure my problem comes from my application method somehow, I just don't know what. I apply thin, I give plenty of time to dry, and I do shake the product before use. Even with the help of a QD it is still a pain to remove. You REALLY have to scrub to get this two-tone effect to go away.

I don't know... It just is a pain and adds quite a bit of time to my process. I hope I can find the solution to why it happens to bad to me. Maybe I will just switch over to Gold Class Plus and use NXT for winter coats...

I have had that problem twice and what i did was take large plush micro fiber polishing towel and sit my cheap orbital buffer on top of itand let the towel polish it off, worked very well.
Am i obsessed?? A car is the second biggest financial investment for most people, why not keep it looking better than new?
