All I have a Black 02 Vette that I recently purchased and the hood roof and hatch have some, fine scratches,a few swirls, and some water spots that I have been able to get out if I use Scratch X by hand. (Just used that as a test for the water spots.) My quesiton is after doing a ton of research on here I am still confused on which products and pad to use with my PC. I, am going to wash and clay first, then do I use Swirl-x, or use a more aggressive compound and then which polish to use before I final wax? Also which pads would be best I have 3 orange 1 yellow and 2 finishing pads. Thanks for the help, want to get started but am lost of which products.

Re: Which products?
To give a general answer, is that you want to use the least aggressive pad/chemical combo as you can get away with. With using a Porter Cable like you have, there is definitly a safety barrier that Rotaries do not have.
Pad/Chem Combo is something your going to have to try out.
What brand pads are you using. I assume your Orange is the most aggressive, the yellow is finessing (some cut) and the finishing pad is either a red or grey?
Im my practicing I have had learned that you can let the product work if you go with a lesser aggressive pad and let the chemical get the swrils out or vice versa.
Thats why its good to get a few junk yard practice pieces to see what works and what does not. Hell I used Ultimate Compound by hand, working it in with terry cloth and by hand took swirls out of my 2002 Trans Am.

Re: Which products?
On your vette I can almost guarantee you will need to work with M105 on your portercable and orange pad for quite a while to get it looking real good. Corvette clearcoats are VERY tough.
The yellow pad will probably cause too much marring and wont be necessary unless your finish is heavily oxidized.

Re: Which products?
The pads I have are lake county and the orange says light cutting. The yellow says cutting pad and most aggressive. Would you start with the orange and M105 and if not getting results then go to the yellow. Or should I start with the orange and UC then move to M105 if the UC does not cut it?
