  • Ultimate Compound not working like I expected

    Hi all,

I went to work on my hood today with my G110v2 using some UC on a W8207 yellow polishing pad. The hood has some spots that I figured my combination would remove. I applied the product in a circle on the pad as demonstrated elsewhere and did not buff dry. I worked a small area- about 16" square. I applied moderate pressure. It's an overcast day so I can't see if I removed any swirls, but the paint has much more depth and darkness, so I know I did some good. There are some spots that did not come out, even after working them by hand after the machine.

The spots seem to be ever so slightly indented, and will not come out using UC. I don't want to go to the cutting pad, as the results are otherwise good. Any suggestions?

They look like type 2 waterspots. These would be etched into the paint. You may have gone as far as you'll be comfortable going given the tools at hand.

I suspected that. Are we talking M105 on wool on a rotary to fix it?

That would be the strongest thing possible. You would need someone experienced to say if it is good to do, worth it, etc.

Not everything is fixable, and at least that middle one looks deep.

They're all pretty deep. I had a heck of a time getting those pictures to turn out properly with no sun. There are some especially nasty standing water spots by the window cleaner nozzles. They must have been on there for a long time before I bought the car, and especially before I realized how badly I've been treating my vehicles after reading forums like this and Autopia. Thanks to all for your help so far!!

Sometimes you reach the end of your skills. Those definitely look like they are etched into the paint, type 2.
