  • Lexus Perfection

Hi, Glad to be a member.
    Question.
Just bought a 2009 demo Lexus ES-350; Car is clean but has been run through a car wash many time at the dealer, as it was a new car but used as a loaner. Lots of car wash marks, plus a slight rough finish.
I want to get it back to a showroom or better shine.

I have used Meguiars Swirl remover, but it still shows slight scratches.
I have hand waxed the entire car but I am still not at all happy with my results.

Any suggestions on how to restore the Lexus to a supreme condition??

By the way, I've owned tons of cars, and have always babied them, but got them as new, so I've never had a problem like above. My cars have NEVER seen the inside of a commercial carwash.

    Thanks again.

If you are having a "rough feel" to your paint then you need to use a clay kit right after washing. As for the light swirls, are you doing it by hand? If so, it takes a lot of work by hand and multiple applications to get it perfect. I would suggest not giving up on swirl x yet but the next step would be to try scratchx before you move to ultimate compound. Then use the wax of your choice.
Am i obsessed?? A car is the second biggest financial investment for most people, why not keep it looking better than new?

      +1

I've seen excellent results with all 3 of those products. Start with the Clay Bar kit fur sure - you'll be very happy with the results.

Read through Meguiar's 5-Step Paint Care Cycle - Updated!
        - it will outline the full process, give product recommendations and even offers some videos showing how to do each step.

Going to Clay the hood of the car this afternoon, than apply the Meguiar's Swirl Remover with my Meguiar's buffer. Hopefully that will give me the desired results, then I can apply paste wax. I've been using Collinite's Marque D'Elegance; can you compare that to the Mequiar's waxes? Not overly impressed with NXT. I used to use your premium liquid, but it has been discontinued.
Question: Can I apply the swirl remover on the yellow pad and remove it with the light tan finishing pad? I see that you now have a Black Finishing pad. Is there a difference?

          Thanks,

          Jim

You might need to apply Swirlx at least twice. I did my black Jeep twice and it wasn't enough but didn't want to jump up to UC.

You're right. I clayed the hood and it is now smooth as glass. I did the swirl remover once, and than waxed the hood. Still not happy as I can still see water marks and some superficial swirls. I'm like you, this is a new car and I don't want to jump to anything more agressive unless I have to.

I have a Meguiar's DA Buffer, which I have used. I am getting some of the swirls out, but not getting that perfect finish, like I want. Is the Swirl remover any different than the M-105?

                    Re: Lexus Perfection

A Lexus loaner probably hasn't received any love'n until you took it home so you may have a task ahead of you. Being a concerned car care noob, the folks here have hammered a couple of practices into my marginally thick skull. Work with a small test area and get it the way you want it. Then and only then proceed with the rest of the car. Only wax when you have got it in mint condition as waxes do little, if any correction.

I think I can imagine what your finish looks like (except the color), but if you post a photo(s) the experts here will help you out.

                    Good luck.

Good Idea. I'll get some pics us tonight. And you are 100% about the finish.....the swirl marks from the car wash they used, and the little scratches here and there are proving a night mare to remove.
