  • Unsightly sun baked composite bumpers!

How can I bring the composite bumpers and molding on my 98 Jeep Cherokee back to their beautiful black finish? I KNOW Meguiar has the product! They are sun faded and gray. I would appreciate any advice!

    Thanks!
    Pearldog

P.S. I am new to this so not sure I even know how to use threads!

Haven't used it myself but check out this thread (you will then be qualified in threadology)

Also, post some pics of you bumper issue. You will get more quality help that way

What you'll want to check out is post #18 in the thread posted by Mr Miyagi. This was done on a Grand Cherokee with the same plastic cladding you have. Actually, the vehicle shown in that post is the same that is on the bottle of Ultimate Protectant. Pretty cool, I think.

Ultimate Protectant is awesome stuff, however, it is unlike anything else on the market. For that reason, there is a technique to applying it correctly. If you decide to use Ultimate Protectant, and I think you should, you really need to read this first:

        How to Apply Ultimate Protectant

Pearldog, the portion of that thread Colin is referring to is this:

Below is a series of images shot by one of our product managers, in fact the guy responsible for overseeing Ultimate Protectant during its development. The shots depict the lower cladding on his Jeep Cherokee, which was looking a bit weathered.

This is immediately following application of Ultimate Protectant. You can see the dramatic difference in appearance from the untreated section on the left to the treated side on the right. What's really cool beyond just the appearance is the fact that Ultimate Protectant dries fully dry to the touch in a matter of minutes.

This next shot is the same area, but 20 days after application.

Finally, we're a bit over 2 months since that single application (72 days to be precise) and the vehicle has been washed. What's really interesting here is that even though the product is beginning to show signs of fading back a bit, the treated side still looks much more uniform in color than does the untreated side.

But we also had a different Cherokee at a Thursday Night Open Garage earlier this year, and it too was in dire need of some TLC. So we use UP on it too!

There was a recall/TSB out for Avalanche trucks a while back for faded cladding. My brother brought his vehicle into the dealership and they used a product like this:

He kept the truck for over 2 years after it was treated and it still looked brand new.
