  • Cleaning Mustang Underhood Blanket?

I'm getting ready for a car show in a couple weeks, and need to clean the underhood insulating blanket on my 2003 Mach 1. It has some grime and waterspots that need to be removed. What would everyone recommend to clean this?

I have used a light spray of water, a soft body brush (if needed) with Meguiars Gold Class Car Shampoo, rinse and let dry. I follow that with a application of Meguiars Hot Shine Spray Tire Foam. The tire foam really brings back the color and is the ticket to the whole process.

As you are aware, just be very gentle with the cleaning process.

Yeah, I usually just hose mine down with water, then wipe it with a damp terry towel that has a decent amount of Water Based Dressing on it. Cleans it up pretty good IMO.

I've wiped mine down with a wet rag (water only), but really didn't do much for it. I think its time to remove it completely and use a gentle brush and clean with APC? Would Hyper Dressing be good to use as a dressing?

BTW roushstage2, did you remove the blanket from the hood? If so, how difficult is it, did you break any of the clips that hold it in place?

Hyper Dressing would be good. I haven't removed mine, but your hood might actually be completely painted underneath the blanket. If you use the proper tool, you should break any clips.

As long as there are no oil stains, some soap & water, maybe some degreaser and a light stream of water may clean it up, along with some light aggitation. If high pressure is used, (if this blanket is anything like an S2K under hood blanky) it will be damaged. As far as removing oil stains, replacement of blanket is the only option to create a like "brand new" appearence.

I would coat it with Hot Shine Tire Foam.

              Works pretty well.

Removing definitely makes it easier. They are very difficult to get the new look back again. They take forever to completely dry, too, if you take it out and hose it down.

The foam tire shine is a great idea. This is probably your best (and easiest) choice.
