  • Problems with D151

I used D151 with a LC HydroTech Tangerine Pad on my '96 Saturn SL2 and although the combination cleaned up the paint, it did little in the area of swirl removal. I am using a Flex 3401XRG on speed 5 with four passes.

The amount of swirls on the paint are light, especially for a 15 year old car. I'm guessing that this is because the clearcoat is very hard?

Considering that D151 and the HydroTech tangerine did not do the job, is it safe to use an LC orange pad? I was always told to only use the white pad (or gentler) with AIO type products.

    Thanks.

D151 is an amazing product that with the right pad can be extremely aggressive. There are people using d151 with a cutting pad and rotaries and it taking out major defects. I wouldn't use a heavy cutting pad on my pc with it though, but with the flex I would do a test spot with the orange pad.

Orange Pad and 151 is my starting point for most "single step" details. Don't be afraid to try it with a yellow pad either, if you have it...you just might have to go back over it with a white or gray pad after.

do you have to make another pass with 151 and a lighter pad or does the orange LC pad / 151 finish well enough as is?

Sometimes I do, sometimes I don't. Just inspect your work and see how it comes out.

When using the orange pad does it leave protection behind or is another wax needed?

It still beads water very well after application on an orange pad.

I usually top it with another carnauba though.

I normally top it too...never really use it as an AIO like it is lol.
