  • straight-up paint cleaner

Hi all... been a while for me here. anyway, I am looking for a no frills paint cleaner. I need something mild and easy to remove that ONLY cleans the paint. Not looking for anything with oils, wax, sealer, etc. Not an AIO. Just a plain ole paint cleaner that I can use with a DA for paint that is in good condition.

    Thanks for your recommendations.

SwirlX will be closest, unless you still see some DC Cleaner around.

#9 would be milder, but might have more polishing oils.

Well, not sure about Canada, but the DC Cleaner is discontinued in the US.

So yeah, it would be mildest cleaner only if you can get it.

Usually it is more a matter of understanding why a cleaner only is a persons primary focus? Might be something they are thinking about, or have been told by others that isn't necessarily critical.

Thanks guys. I was aware of DC cleaner and that it was disco. So there is not a correlative pro grade or detailer product?

M205 works well to clean the paint up.

Yea we definitely still get them here at $14.99 but why would they discontinued? Were they not selling well?

I prefer to keep my steps separate and generally dislike AIO products. I like to know exactly what I am working with - if cleaning paint, I want to be cleaning paint, not applying polish / shine. I am selective about the types of sealers and waxes I am using, how they work together, are topped, etc. I know what result each produces and expect that result. For example, NXT 2.0 produces one result when applied directly after clay, another result when applied after Swirlx, another after ultimate compound, another after a pure polish, etc. This goes on and on for different products at different steps and even for different auto colors and paint condition.

I have found that often there is a hole in my steps by not having a simple paint cleaner. So, as someone suggested, I use SwirlX, in it's place. Sometimes, ok, sometimes it is not the desired application due to the time it takes and the unwanted level of "shine" it produces for my purposes.

Yes, I am anal and OCD, but this is what I want

                        Thanks

I think people expected it to remove defects, which it is far too mild to do by hand. So people ended up feeling disapointed.

                            Unwanted shine?

UC is moslty a cleaner, as are #105, and other heavy duty products. The mild ones have at least some polishing oils.

Unwanted shine was relating to SwirlX not UC. I am happy with both products but looking for something with less oils than SwirlX but not heavy duty at all. A quick on and off clean prep step.
