you get what you pay for ....gotta figure out what your time is worth. if you spend say 12 hours polishing your car by hand and you could have gotten it done is say 3, how much are those 9 hours (each time you detail) worth to you? but besides that you can get a PC or PCXP for maybe a little less...???

Trust me.. once you use it, it would have already payed for itself and you'll wonder why you didn't get one sooner. Buying a DA is one of the smartest investments you'll ever make and it makes detailing alot easier with better overall results. Not to mention, you can do a few cars on the side and make some extra cash.

I've bought cheaper polishers and I totally wasted my money. I've got full value out of the G110v2 and now it's making me money. I only do friends vehicles, but it certainly pays for my hobby.

BTW I think it's actually pretty cheap considering how much detailing as a hobby can cost. Some guys pay more just for a tin of wax. The G110v2 is probably the best value detailing products you can buy. It lasts for a long long time.

Seriously, they are worth it. You will be amazed at the level of correction obtained by the machine.

The analogy I use is this. In any hobby the initial start up costs are the killer. Once you get past the initial costs. It is a very worthwhile endeavor.

Does not matter if it is model airplanes, fish tanks, etc. The initial costs are all high.

I'm converted . I have always detailed by hand but it takes ages. Really considering buying a D/A. What parts do you still do by hand if any?

Any hints/tips on foam pads to buy?

As I detail by hand I have seperate foam pads for uc/dco1/dco2/dco3/nxt2.0 wax etc....

Also can I use the d/a to apply all of the above? Hints or tips please?

Don't skimp on the tools or products you use on your paint. Put it into perspective: An average factory paint job runs around $5000. Do you really want to risk using bargain tools and polishes on that portion of your automotive investment?

I suggest some 4" polishing pads (if you want to do even less hand work) and backing plate along with 7" Softbuff 2.0 pads (1 cutting (burgundy), 3 polishing(yellow), 2 finishing(black)
or 1,4,1

I like waxing by hand, theres no reason except for personal preference

Start by getting polishing and finishing pads, stay away from cutting pads for now. Their not too DA friendly

Seriously, you'll never look back. Since owning quality machine polishers, I can't even imagine (and I don't want to) doing it by hand. Besides, that machine can do way more than your hand could ever do, no matter how long you've been doing it by hand. If its too much all at once, budget for it. Then it won't seem like so much at once.

There are other alternatives that could save you money. Look for a used Porter Cable PC7424, the original Meguiar's G100 (relabeled 7424), or by a different brand new. I own the new Griot's Random Orbit Polisher. It sells for $129 on AutoGeek.net. Its an amazing machine with a lifetime warranty.

Which of the polishers come with the "correct" backing plate and which you need to buy separately? The cost of the pads and possible backing plate should picture in your decision.

Under the door handles and any place that is very awkward to get the machine into. Very few places really.

Never tried the dc system. Can not comment on them, The others you have listed will be okay to use with the d/a.

Get as many pads as you can. Get a cutting pad and a bonnet for wax removal.
3-4 polishing pads, and a couple finishing pads. You will be in good shape this way.

Great thanks guys i have been looking at buying a Meguiars g220 machine.

I have been doing a fair bit of reading on this excellent site.

I will be using Ultimate compound followed by dc02 topped with nxt tech wax 2.0.

Just to be clear guys. Should i use a cutting pad burgandy for the ultimate compound? I would of thought this would be to much cut?

Followed by
a yellow polishing for the dc02 and finally a black finishing pad for the wax.

I have a black pearl with a few light swirls to remove.

Would just the yellow polishing pads be good enough for all 3 processes?

Also what is the benefit of using a finishing pad appplying wax?
