M40 or UP for door rubber / weather seals?

Hi all,

What would you recommend to use to door's rubber weather seals / strips?
M40 was recommended before as it's cleaner as well.
However, new product for 2010 is UP that has better water resistance and bonding (via polymers) to applied material.

Which one works better for this specific matter?
I've used just silicon spray for past years, but it dries quickly and has to be re applied often.

Or will Honda E. grease be better for that matter?

Not really ment for this purpose but works well.
Tire dressing. Last very long time.

M40 IMO. I don't like UP that much. M40 is always good to have around.

In my opinion, something I'm an expert on, Ultimate Protectant is the product you want to be using on anything exposed to the elements. M40 is a great product and while it can be used on exterior plastics and rubbers it doesn't last very long.

Meguiar's M40 is my go to product for interior surfaces and Ultimate Protectant is my choice for exterior moldings and trim.

thanks for you replies

yesterday I applied M40, UP and Supreme Shine to upper door rubber seal - 10-15 cm each, applied to inner trim / plastic too and took pictures.
today I took pics as well.
I'll process and post pics here later.
So far I can't say which product works better.

Yes, UP not greasy as M40 and Supreme Shine.
After a day that grease went away and I'm really puzzled if any of those did and does anything to rubber
and that just after one day.

I plan to go to Honda & Toyota parts and check what they have and use for this matter.

I applied silicon spray (Preston) a week ago - should I remove / clean rubber before M40 and etc? to make it bond better?
M40 is cleaner as well - so it should work by itself - isn't it?

M40 is a mild cleaner.... silicone could be more stubborn.

Mike,

There are no set rules for using these products and it's up to you to determine which one works the best and where. I'll give you my honest opinion especially my own experiences. Don't be afraid to do a little experimenting, it'll at the very least give you some learning that can be carried forward. It's what works best for "you".

I always use M40, main reason is I like the look and the fact that I am right there working on the doors and such when I happen to have a bottle of M40 in my hand so it is the most convient.

Rubber by nature - particularly door seal rubber which is meant to repel water - doesn't absorb well. I too have noticed some products won't stick terribly well. Also, if the rubber hasn't been treated before, or at least not recently, it may take a few applications to really get in there.

I went with another product for rubber seals - Honda Shin Etsu silicone grease costs about $16 at the Honda dealer

yes, it costs more, but hope it'll last longer too

How did you like the Honda product? I have a 1994 Accord that has original door seals in good shape. I've used some m40 and noticed they soaked it up like they were thristy, but I'd be curious to hear a comparison.

so far so good.
As for me M40 lasted less then a week, while honda's for 2-4 months with a rain.

I'll have to grab some of the Honda stuff the next time I'm at the dealership.

Do you happen to have the Honda Part number? They're going to look at me funny and say, "why don't you just use armorall?"
