  • Need a lot of help!

I was detailing my grandma's CTS this morning and there is some yellow gunk behind all the tires. Claying and bug/tar remover doesnt work. i thought about using the dreaded gasoline but dont want to ruin paint and i doubt it takes it off. I think it may be the yellow paint they use to paint the streets. What can i do!!!

Also, whats the differnce between QD and UQD besides five bucks? Couldnt i get the same results with QD and save a few dollars? I still dont understand why if UQD is so much better, why cant i clay with it if i run out of QD? If i have UQD and UQW i really dont know when i should use one or the other. I have watched both videos on them but i guess i'm slow today because it seems very similiar to me.
I bought some of Meg's all wheel cleaner, now just to be sure, its ok to use with any type of factory rim whether they are aluminum, alloy, or chrome etc?? Yes, i am full of questions.
    Thank you in advance.

O yea, i know automatic car washes are bad, but whats so bad about using the manual spray gun at the car wash for when i need a quick rinse. Guys around here seem to frown on that.
Am i obsessed?? A car is the second biggest financial investment for most people, why not keep it looking better than new?

You can use steel wool on the wells.

I would try some Body Solvent on the paint.

Using UQD as a clay lube would be a waste of the product and your money. Especially if you are using a lot of it for heavy contamination.

Meguiars All Wheel Cleaner cannot be used on virtually every wheel. More like factory wheels.

Not all automatic car washes are bad, the Laser Touch ones that do not touch the paint are fine but tend to use stronger chemicals that strip protection.

Who has frowned upon using the coin op or a pressure washer??? I have a pressure washer and use it from time to time.

Let's start with the 'yellow gunk issue.' It looks like it might be the paint they use on the roads. For the wells, use a strong degreaser such as Super Degreaser at 4:1 or Purple Power (Walmart carries it) at full strength. Use it liberally and scrub well with a firm bristled brush (a toilet brush works great here). This should get it off as it looks like it is stuck on the surface.

Now, for the white paint itself. You could use some Body Solvent or a stronger bug and tar remover. Another possibility is to wet the surface with water and then spray Purple Power (full strength) at the affected areas and let it sit for a minute and try and wipe it off with a damp terry cloth towel. This may cause some scratches but you are working on white which will hide many defects and a few scratches will look better than that 'yellow gunk.' The scratches can also be removed with some Ultimate Compound and some elbow grease.
Another way to go is an aggressive clay bar. This will mar the finish a little but it will most likely remove that gunk from the paint. I have not used aggressive clay but from what I have seen, it will work in this case.

To the next question, UQD leaves behind a polymer coating that uses hydrophobic technology while QD doesn't. However, this coating makes UQD incredibly slick and too slick for claying. That is why QD and not UQD can be used for claying.

SD and a brush will not do anything if it is in fact road paint. I just worked on an F-250 with road paint in the wells and I had to use steel wool to get it off.

The Body Solvent "might" loosen the yellow paint on the car if let to sit for an hour or so.

A while back I did a Mercury with black road paint on the bottom of the car and all I had access to was a brillo pad and that got it off. Marred the paint up pretty bad but some 105 and cotton towels handled the situation.

You could try a more aggressive clay.

A co-worker removed road paint with Goof-Off and a terry cloth.

I would plan on marring, but that can be fixed.

Bare metal will turn a cloth jet black if used with a metal polish or decent paint cleaner. Try mufflers as an example.

Clear coat will be clear, or a dirty gray.

I had a client who ran over a five gallon bucket of paint. What I did was Spray liberal amounts of body solvent. Let it dwell. Used a plastic razor blade and scraped it away. Worked very well.

Not sure what type of paint it was. But in this particular application it worked.
