  • Color X or Scratch X? or Do have a I misdiagnosed the issue?

    Hello All!

Sorry if this has been asked a million times, but the joy of buying a newly used car and cleaning it up to make it look brand spanking new has left me to create this newbie thread. Its my second car and is fairly pretty nice compared to my first haha..thus I want to keep it as nice as possible for a long time to come.

I'll take pics in the morning, but to describe the issue - there are parts of my 2007 Honda Accord that are slightly dull/flat, which I guessed its either because of oxidation or maybe clear coat failure. from the looks of other before and after jobs, Im leaning more towards oxidation..so that brings me to what product I should use..

I've searched some and saw some are using some solution #83, but seems thats for more severe cases.. so after some more digging though Id narrow it down to Color X or Scratch X..and maybe a clay bar..

I know on the description page, it says Color X will bring back the glassy feel for clear coats and mentions oxidation but wanted to get some input.also wonder how long the glassy feel or brand new shine will last?

    Thanks!!

ColorX is an all-in-one cleaner wax--that is to say, it both cleans and smooths the paint and lays behind a layer of protection. It contains chemical cleaners and diminishing abrasives. It might be precisely what your car needs. This would be the first product I would try.

Do a TEST SPOT, perhaps 1' squared. Wash and clay the car. Then apply the ColorX using either soft foam or soft microfiber applicator pads. Use an ample amount of product. Work the ColorX like you would rub a skin lotion onto your skin. Allow it to dry to a haze and then wipe off. Inspect your test spot. If you like the results, you can than proceed to wax the entire car.

If you do not like the results, then you'll need to move up the aggressiveness ladder and pick up a bottle of SwirlX, ScratchX, or Ultimate Compound. Hand polishing can be hard, time-consuming work, which is why a lot of us have invested in a dual action polisher.

You ask how to keep your daily driver looking shiny. Check out this article: Your Daily Driver: A Simple Wash & Wax Regimen.

    Good luck!

thanks for the info Al! I'll be sure to read the Daily Driver Regimen. Im going to pick up the clay bar set and color x today. as promised, here's a pic. the bumper as you can see is flat and dull compared to the trunk. also when brushing my hand against it, its rough and definitely not smooth.

      many thanks!

As far as how long it will last, that also depends on what the problem is.... if something is failing, it certainly wont last long.

Take some pics though, shouldnt be too bad if nothing is failing.
