  • What to use to revitalize black mouldings/trim

Working on a 99 superduty with over 300k on it so the truck needs some help. What would be the best choice to bring back the new look of all the exterior black plastic/rubber parts and pieces? Thanks

Ultimate Protectant or M40 (vinyl & Rubber cleaner/conditioner) would be good choices.

All Season Dressing is a great product to keep it looking good and it really helps restore faded moldings as well.

This was one quick treatment with M40 on a 2004 Crossfire.

What happens when it rains or gets wet?

I would go with All Season Dressing. Do not be surprised if it takes a couple of applications.

I know this is a meguires forum, but what about mothers back to black?

It all depends on what condition it was in to begin with. All dressings eventually need to be replenished, but silicone based dressings (as mentioned) tend to last much longer even when exposed to rain.

As J.A. Michaels mentioned, it may take a few treatments. If you are treating it more than neglecting it then it will look better each time.

I'm not sure about Back to Black, but you may want to check out Black Wow if looking for an alternative.

Depending on how dried out the plastic is, as JA Michaels said, it may take a few applications. Chances are that you will apply a dressing and it will be so dried out that it is just going to **** it right up.

As for something you can buy in an every-day store, I would suggest Ultimate Protectant, but if you buy online, All Season Dressing will be a bit heavier and oilier and will revive the dried out plastic a bit more.

If you want to buy in-store and Ultimate Protectant just isn't reviving it enough, buy some Hot-Shine tire dressing in the trigger spray bottle. Apply that and let it sit for a few hours, and then wipe any excess off. (Same goes for All Season Dressing)

I once put swirls in my paint just to see what it looked like.

                I don't always detail cars, but when I do, I prefer Meguiar's.
                Remove swirls my friends.

I would go with All Season Dressing, its really rich and will condition and bring back the life to the exterior trim.

I was more referring to if it runs on the body panels

If it's running down the body panels you applied too much. This can happen even if it doesn't rain and you applied too much. With an average application like I did on the Crossfire, it wont run. I have full intentions of reapplying dressing again after the next wash. It's something that you have to do with consistency not intensity.

I have used Back to Black for years now and it works quite well, until it rains or you wash the car. It can leave tough to remove drips down the side of the car.

What I recently started using on rubber trim, not plastics, is 1Z Einszett Rubber Care Stick Gummi Pflege. It really revitalizes rubber trim and door seals.

Am i obsessed?? A car is the second biggest financial investment for most people, why not keep it looking better than new?

Meguiar's offers a great new product called Ultimate Protectant. I would try this and I'm sure you'll be pleased with the results.
