  • Light needed

I'm working in the garage, and I have a construction light. I am not sure the correct name, but its a single bulb on a cord.
Anyway, it just does not provide enough light for me to see the scratches on a dark car, let alone a lighter car.
I would like to buy a light that will show these scratches, so I don't have to look upside down!
Not sure how much a nice light would be, but would like some choices that I can buy locally. (Sorry, but I am a gal, and I can outshop most other females!)
    thank you!

The Brinksman Dual Xenon is good for handheld checking. Can do a search for the "Swirlfinder".

As far as garage lights in general, just need something good. If you watch the Home Depot, Lowes ads, you can often catch a sale on the pole mounted halogen type lights.

I have both types of lights Murr described. I started out with the hand held. Does a great job. I use the tripod for overall lighting and broader inspection. I believe both are necessary.

thanks. found it at autogeek, but, as I stated I love to shop. Next trip into town, will look at Home Depot, Lowe's, etc. Thanks. Will most likely get the one on a stand, as I just can't hold and work at the same time!
        Thank you very much, guys!!!!

Its not really for working while you hold it.

More for checking before/after, as the other types of light may not show all the defects.

            Re: Light needed

I currently have the dual halogen lights that are on the tripod and they work great at showing the swirls and scratches, however they are really hot. Especially when you are out in the garage this time of year. I'm actually thinking about buying a 4' fluorescent light and mounting it in a way similar to what SHYNEMAN123 has in this Shop Lighting Tip thread that he posted.

Just another inexpensive option for getting a little extra light and it is portable.

The halogens are definitely hot, but do a great job. I love mine.

                Mister B:
thats a great idea! I actually have one laying around here somewheres that we had in our first house's garage for my work area! I may try it, but would still like a light on a stand.

Very hot indeed, but top result with double halogens.
