What is the best wax for a black car?

Also how do people apply. In circular motions or back and forth then left to right? To reduce swirls

    "Best" is quite subjective.

Personally I like EZ-Creme Glaze (chemical guys) topped with Meguiar's Ultimate Quick Wax: http://www.meguiarsonline.com/forums...ad.php?t=43935

NXT 2.0 also looks great on black.

I also go in back in forth motions following the lines of the car. I never apply in circular motions by hand.

You can apply in any direction you like, whatever fits you and the panel.

I agree best is a bit subjective. Just want peoples ideas and hints.

I will be trying nxt 2.0 topped with the new gold class plus and report back my findings. Any suggestion of drying time between 2 different waxes?.

I let NXT sit on the paint a bit longer than a Carnauba because it's technically a sealant. I generally keep NXT on for 45 minutes to an hour.

Gold class to should read to remove in 20-30 minutes (check to be sure the product is dry though and ready for removal before you actually start to attempt buffing it off though.)

I use NXT 2.0 on my car. Looks great, but yeah, "best" is subjective, since it's the only wax I've used in my career.

I dont know that there is any best wax. I believe I have read a write up before on here even stating this. If it looks good on one color it will look good on all. Remember you are waxing the clear coat, not the black. Black just reflects things much easier so appears different.

That said when I was I normally go for something nice and slick. I like NXT, blackfire is also nice, and croftgate quick n' slick is great too. I have a variety of waxes and I just grab whatever happens to be closest.

What I can think of that I've applied:
                Deep Crystal Wax
                Gold Class
                Hi-Tech Yellow Wax
                NXT
                NXT 2.0
                M21
                Cleaner Wax
                D151
                M66
                ColorX

In all honesty, there's really not too much of a difference IMO on good, clean, well prepped black paint. Yes, the carnauba waxes leave a bit deeper look to the paint, but it's kind of just preference. I still want to try Blackfire, is it? Just a curiosity thing, lol.

I personally am quite fond of the NXT/M26 Hi Tech Combo, It gives me enought depth, gloss, and durability to last me for most of spring and summer depending on weather and the ability to maintain the finish.

But as J.A. says, "beauty is in the eye of the beholder."

Albeit a little late, I have recently found that #7 topped with #16 is awesome on my black clearcoat Mustang. Should have done that years ago...

Hi there, circular or back and forth should not matter when you apply wax because pure wax is not abrasive. If you clean or polish the surface you better go with straight lines unless you totally work the product in the paint (which we should do anyway).

In terms of waxes, I believe any wax will do a great job if the surface underneath is clean. If you have a black metallic paint it will help hiding the swirls a bit. If you have a non-metallic black paint (like I do on my black CTS) then it gets very tough to keep mint but well rewarding and mirror like finish when clean.

So far I find that the Pinnacle Souveran Wax (I only tried the liquid version so far) gives me the best result in terms or mirror-like finish on non-metallic black surface. Meguiar's NXT 2.0 is also very good and easy to apply and helps hide tiny swirls.

Good luck and keep us posted !
