  • How to make painted Rear-View Mirror shiny?

    1) My painted Rear-View Mirror is made of kinda plastic-ish material... Would NXT Tech Wax be safe to use on it to make shiny? (Is wax safe to apply on painted "plastic" surfaces like the mirror?) If not, any other way to make the mirror shiny?

    2) My blind spot mirror has some un-removable black dots (not sure how I got it); Is there any product I could use to remove the black dots? If not, how do I remove the entire blind spot mirror completely? (The tape seems to holding on the blind spot mirror pretty tight.)

    Thanks!

    From the pictures at least, it seems like they are painted. I would try a test spot with some swirlx or ultimate compound and see if that brings back the shine. Nxt wax should be just fine for that area. As for the blind spot mirror, the black dots are most likely the signs of it failing. Try pouring some adhesive remover or goo gone behind it. Let it soak, apply again and try to gently pry it off. It may take a few applications.

      If it is painted you are okay. Just start at the least aggressive first.

      Wash
      clay
      scratch=x
      NXT

      Try some WD-40 or goo gone to loosen up the adhesive.

        I just went to Walmart and bought some Swirl X since its the least aggressive out of the 3; I will try it on next weekend and top it w/ Tech Wax 2.0. (I tried looking for Color X in multiple retail stores but they don't carry them anymore; I am thinking maybe Color X has been discontinued.)

        As for the black dots, I tried spraying Goo Gone directly on the blind spot mirror in attempt to remove the dots and even scrubbed the mirror w/ a kitchen brush; Unfortunately, I failed miserably w/ even more black smeared spots everywhere. So I got frustrated and yank out the blind spot mirror by force and it worked. I sprayed some Windex on the leftover tape and completely removed the blind spot mirror... haha...
