  • Glue Residue

I just purchased a new car and I noticed there are glue residue on the hood and side. I am assuming its from the white plastic that covers the car while in the lot. I was just going to use my regular meguliar soap and lambskin wash mitts and try to get it off. Is this the best or or is there an alternative productive I can use without damaging the paint?

    Re: Glue Residue

I personally haven't had to clean the glue from the white stickers, but I normally use Goo Gone or WD-40 to remove glue.

I'd imagine the glue from the protective wrap is very mild and water soluble. Washing it should remove the glue. What I wouldn't do is pick at it. If water doesn't remove it likely it isn't water based and I'd use the Goo Gone.

I'm sure someone on this forum will know for sure. But if you don't get any answers I would phone the dealership and ask what they use.

I personally wouldn't let the dealership wash or detail my vehicle, so bringing it back wouldn't be an option for me. It's your call.

I used goo gone before and its great. I worried that it might be too strong and might damage the paint.

I don't think I've seen anyone ever comment on it damaging paint. Goo Gone even makes an auto version.

If the glue isn't water based you could look at Meguiar's Bug & Tar Remover or Body Solvent from the Detailer line.

Did you try car wash soap and water yet. I'd let a damp cloth sit on it for a minute and then give it a gentle wipe.

Usually the white things are more like static clings, not much glue... but there is some tape sometimes.

Regular soap is always fine, Goo Gone, clay/paint cleaner when you do your detail.

Here is another vote for either WD-40 or Goo gone.

              Re: Glue Residue

I've used wd40 yesterday to remove some glue residue from the stickers on my bike.

Excellent result and no damage to the paint at all.
