Waxing wheels?

For those of you that wax your wheels, I have two quick questions:

1. What kind of wax do you use?

2. Will using a wheel cleaner at the next wash strip the wax?

I'm leaning towards using NXT 2.0 on the wheels since I've been using it on the rest of the car. Also, I'm thinking I should use soap and water to clean the brake dust off until waxing them again so as not to strip any wax . . .

1- Your best bet would be using a synthetic sealant/wax like NXT or one of the professional line synthetics. They stand up to the heat and grime best, but they still only last a short time due to the harsh treament they get being on a wheel.

2- If you wax your wheels, you should be able to wash them with just car wash soap and water, and not need a heavy duty wheel cleaner. Dedicated wheel cleaners may strip away any remaining wax that is on the wheel. It's best to wax the wheels often.

Hey Jeffguyrock....
1) I use NXT v2....works great. Brake dust just washes right off with regular GC car wash.

2)Yes.....found out the hard way!

NXT 2.0 here as well ....actually sometimes I start with D151 and then follow it with the NXT.

I've Used Nxt 2.0 before too but I think that Meguiars quick wax is the best choice

My reasons are ,
- Its quicker
- Its cheaper
- I personally wash my wheels every week so the wax gets striped anyway

I use UQW on them each wash as well. I feel that the heat that a rim sees will cook the wax (spray or NXT) pretty quick I would think.

I wax the wheels. But I also know it is a short time option. The heat from the wheels will break down the wax rather quickly.

I use some original formula #21.

I have given up waxing my wheels--or at least waxing them very often. I find it time-consuming with little positive benefit: I honestly can't tell much, if any, visual difference, and the wheel wax doesn't last very long anyway.

The brake dust and grime of my wheels (I have two Hondas) brushes off easily with a little APC. I'd rather wash the wheels each time I wash the car rather than spend the extra time to wax them. I'll probably apply some Collinite 476 to the wheels just before wintertime, but that's about it.

I enjoy dressing my tires, but waxing the wheels ... nah.

P.S. Maybe I'll give UQW a try just to see if it makes a visual difference on the rims.

I put Collinite 476s; the mess comes off with great ease with just a bit of car wash soap and lasts for months. I find that no other LSP lasts on wheels for long enough to make it worth my while. The Collinite even stays on the uncoated metal portions of my wheels for a long time, even with all the heat and dust. Two thumbs way up for Collinite on the wheels here.

I use A12 Cleaner Wax and cut up cotton towels.

It's a 2002 Nissan Maxima SE with 17" OEM alloy wheels. I'm thinking I'll try the NXT 2.0 on them and see how it goes. I'm not expecting the wax to last very long but I am curious to see if removing brake dust is significantly easier than on an "unprotected" wheel. Trying to weigh whether I want to spend the time to wax the wheels regularly, or spend that time just using wheel cleaner.

I used Techwax 2.0 on my Jetta's coated aluminum wheels recently. I applied it with a drill and foam ball. It was interesting in that the speed of the ball kinda pulled up ground in dirt as it lyed the wax down. Pretty impressed so far...No build up of brake dust inside..
