  • Protecting Jeep Cherokee from sun damage

I have a 1999 Jeep Cherokee. It has cranberry red, metallic paint. Until I recently bought it, it was garage-kept. Now it spends all day in direct sunlight. The paint is in great shape, right now.

I don't have a garage or carport to protect it. I can't use a car cover, because in my neighborhood, car covers are stolen off my neighbors' vehicles.

I have used Meguiar's products before and have been happy with them.

I need some suggestions on what Meguiar's products to use to protect the paint from sun damage.

I have read that one key to protecting paint from sun damage, is to use a "pure polish," like Deep Crystal #2, to preserve the oils in the paint. You then use a quality wax on top of it. Is this true?

If so, is Deep Crystal #2 the best polish? Which wax do I choose?

    I would appreciate any suggestions.

    Thanks in advance!

Yes, using clay and a paint cleaner to get a good surface would be good.

Then Deep Crystal Polish would be good to get the oils in the paint.

Then 2 coats of Nxt 2.0 would be best protection.

How soon after applying the polish, do you apply the wax?

If you apply 2 coats of wax, do you put one coat on, then the second coat on right away, or do you space them out, letting the first coat "set up",then adding the second coat?

Also, will the wax remove any of the polish you put on?

        You can apply wax, immediately.

Lets clear this up. Apply a coat of wax. Perform the swipe test. When dry, remove wax.

Ideally, the longer you wait between coats the better. Having said this, as long as you wait 20-30 minutes you should be fine. It is done this way all the time.
