  • Best Black Trim Product

I recently bought a new 2010 Mini Cooper S and am in the process of getting together all of the care products to keep it better than show room. From the user forum here I've nailed down all of the products I need with one exception. I like a deep, dark, natural look to my plastic trim and tires but dont care for the high shine of most products....and I havent seen one recommended yet.

Can anyone recommend a good product to get these results? I would prefer a McGuiars product assuming there is one, but am open to others if needed.

    Thanks,

    KC

    Mcwho?

But anyway, for exterior trim and not too shiny, the Ultimate Protectant is probably best.

As for tires, not too sure about low gloss.

I will say that the All Season Dressing and Nxt Insane Shine are very glossy at first, but soon wear to a nice matte look that stays for a while.

Ultimate Protectant is a water-based dressing that repels water. It bonds to the plastic in similar fashion that wax bonds to paint.

Gold Class Trim Detailer is a water based dressing that will run in rain. This is simply the nature of water-based dressings. Ultimate Protectant happens to be an exception.

Both products can bring back dull and faded trim but Ultimate Protectant will last longer.

I have been using Ultimate Protectant; I can't seem to find Gold Class Trim Detailer in retail stores.

I love UP and also can't find the gold class in the stores, but with how nice UP is, I don't mind ...for a matte look on the tires try some m40

I just looked up the M40 and it looks like a great recommendation. I also stumbled across Gold Class Endurance which sounds like it fits the bill as well. Does anyone have any feedback for one product vs. the other?

                Black trim protectant tests.

                • 303 Aerospace
                • Meguiar's Ultimate Protectant
                • Poorboy's World trim Restorer

                • Poorboy's works really well leaving a rich black appearance to any plastic or rubber trim it's applied to. It does go on evenly and coats well. It's a little glossy but quickly dulls to a nice even black.
                • Meguiar's Ultimate Protectant works similarly to Poorboy's but I think Poorboy's World Trim Restorer edges out the win between these two in richness and overall appearance.
                • 303 Aerospace really didn't impress me at all and in my opinion is not even in the same class as Poorboy's World trim Restorer or the Meguiar's Ultimate Protectant. 303 Aerospace goes on milky and watery thin. It leaves streaking on wider areas and when it dries it's very dull and lifeless. To be quite honest it reminds me of Armor All which I stopped using nearly 30 years ago.

One thing to keep in mind is that all the testing was done on exterior trim. 303 Aerospace could be an entirely different animal if used on the interior.

And the best part about Black Wow is that it was created by a fellow Meguiar'sonline member and his father!

Ultimate Protectant and M40 are my two go-to trim product; as a result my Hyperdressing is often neglected.

I can see that Meguiar's is still selling the NXT in the Company web site. the NXT also promised bonding onto the surface... Seems that no much people are discussing about the NXT now eh?

It depends on the plastic. On the textured plastic that GM puts on a lot of their cars and trucks, UP works extremely well. On some of the newer Honda plastics, they're flat plastics, and they don't like UP very much. I was doing this yesterday. It came out ok, but not as good as my Aura's plastic.
