  • Underhood cleaning?

What works for cleaning various dirt and grime from around the engine bay and such?

I have tried a detailer but it couldnt cut through the grime, as I wouldn't expect it to.

    Thanks

    Re: Underhood cleaning?

APC+, APC or Super Degreaser. Depends on how bad the engine is. Here's mine for a more dusty, lightly dirty engine:
Total Time: 20 Minutes Process/Products Used Sprayed the warm engine down liberally with APC+ diluted 10:1 Let it sit for 5 minutes [Scrub here if needed] Sprayed off really good Let the engine run for 5 minutes Soaked up any excess sitting water Sprayed Water Based Dressing undiluted over the entire engine bay, and let it sit

If the engine compartment is on the muddier, greasier side, replace APC/APC+ with a degreaser. Same process still applies, just a stronger cleaner.

      I agree with Tyler.

cover electronics such as the alternator, distributor, fusebox with aluminum foil to keep chemicals and water out.

APC or APC+ works well or if the engine is dirtier than super degreaser works great. Spray the APC+ or Super Degreaser over entire engine bay. Let it sit for just a few minutes to let the cleaner do it's work but don't let it dry.
Any extremely heavy dirt/grease deposits may requiring loosening up with a brush.

Now take a hose and wash down the whole engine bay. It should come out pretty clean at this point.
If needed you can repeat the process for any stubborn areas that are still dirty.

Follow up the cleaning with a light spray over the entire engine bay with Hyper Dressing.

Engine compartment should end up looking like a new vehicle or close to it!
What am I, fly-paper for morons?

I use Super Degreaser (spray it on, let it dwell for about a minute or two, wipe/scrub it off) and follow up with Hyper Dressing (spray it on, let it sit 30 seconds or so, wipe down to make the dressing even and no drip marks). Less than 30 minutes and you can have the engine bay looking like new!

So I'm guessing APC is All Purpose Cleaner? Does anyone have a link to this?
