  • Recommended tire applicators for clean fingers

Can anyone recommend me some good tire applicator pads that won't get on your fingers?

All the ones I have get really messy. I'd like a really clean applicator but can't find one.

I remember seeing that one of Meguiar's tire shines came with an applicator to prevent this, but I already have tire gel and couldn't justify buying more just for the applicator. Plus - I like the extreme shine gel and if I recall the applicator only came with the basic one.

I use the Eagle 1 tire wipes and some heavy duty hand cleaner from Lowes...

Try a cheap paintbrush, your fingers never get near the tire shine.

I like this one: Meguiar's High Gloss Hot Shine Tire Gel + Zero-Mess Applicator

I found mine at Walmart for $6.44

Works great and leaves my hands clean! It has a cover on it so I don't wash it at all - I just cap it and store it for the next time. Obviously using it on clean tires helps keep the dirt and grime out of it...

Edit: I didn't read yoru post in full: I now realize you were trying to avoid buying more Gel, sorry.

Wear Rubber Gloves, that's what I do!

I once put swirls in my paint just to see what it looked like.

            I don't always detail cars, but when I do, I prefer Meguiar's.
            Remove swirls my friends.

Actually, that's good. I didn't realize there was an applicator for Hot Shine, I thought it was only with the other gel because of what I saw at my local stores.

Although I'd still like to keep this thread going for when I'd like to purchase the applicator separately (often).

@ Andrew: Good suggestion about gloves. I actually bought a box of like 100 gloves a while ago, I could start using them. They don't provide good breath-ability though.

Same here. I purchase Nitrile Gloves (or latex) and use these while working on the car or detailing. Cheap and super easy to clean up afterwards - just pull the gloves off.

I use to use the EO1 tire swipes but they fall apart after a while.
I've been using these for quite some time and the fact that they have the slit in the middle and are a one piece construction is nice.

                    Another vote for Nitrile gloves.

Me too, Costco sells them. You can also pick them up at most industrial supply shops in any size, color, powdered, non-powdered, latex, non-latex etc.

I'll have to check the type of gloves I have. I don't really know what they are.

I have the above imaged blue foam applicator but I must be using it wrong because my finger tips get wet still.

These are the ones I use and I'm happy with them.

I like Nitrile over Latex because they tend to be a little thicker and tougher. I usually get them in the paint department at Home Depot of Lowe's - box of 50 pairs for $10-12 which lasts quite a while. You can usually get better pricing/ larger packages from online industrial supply houses.

I think Advanced Auto Parts or AutoZone carries tire applicators similar to the ones found in the Hot Shine gel box.
