  • Summer shower while waxing

As soon as I finished applying NXT 2.0 (paste) to my mother's 2008 Jeep Wrangler, we started getting some heavy downpour here in NY. Not knowing exactly what to do, I figured I would re wash the car (in the rain-lol) using almost a constant stream of water (which I thought would reduce friction and the potential of causing defects.) After the rain, I went back out and dried and hit up the Jeep with some Quik Detailer. So far, so good. I even got a decent amount of beading although the wax had very little time to cure. This brings me to my questions.
    1) What is the best course of action in this situation? Is it possible to simply wait out the rain and buff off the wax?
    2) Tomorrow should I clay the car to remove what is left of a probably very uneven coat of wax and then re-apply NXT 2.0 after watching the weather on TV? Will this be sufficient?
Any and all help is appreciated. Thanks.

Unless you want to get wet, yes, it is possible to wait until the rain stops before buffing off the wax.

I would not re-clay the car. From what I understand, most types of clay will not remove polymer based sealants anyhow, and would be a waste of time. Instead of removing what is already on the finish, apply a second coat of NXT.

      1) You mean it rained after your applied/removed, or rained after you applied?

If it rained after you removed, should be ok to QD after.

If it rained before you removed, with the excess still on the car.... ugh. I guess washing would be best. I had a light sprinkle once, and just let the wax dry a little longer. Got a little smearing when removing, but overall no big deal.

      2) No need to re-clay. You could QD and wax again.

Yeah- before I had the chance to remove the wax it started raining. I'll skip the clay on you guys' advice, reassess tomorrow, then QD or wash, then wax. Thanks guys.
It's good to know that rain isn't a death sentence for wax and should this happen again, maybe I'll just wait it out. Or plan better.

          I would skip claying.

Skip claying, you may want to re-wax the car though, or apply a Quik Wax.

On a side note, I think you took the best course of action. I would have done the same thing.

I went out Monday and rewaxed. Everything looks good. Thanks for the advice.

Agreed with all, you did the right thing. Too bad you got caught out in the middle of the process.
