  • wheel care

I have a 2008 SRT8 challenger, the wheel dust is hard to keep off the rims. Don't know what rim cleaner to use that won't damage the Dodge factory rims.

I always use apc at a 10:1 dilution. Seems to always do a great job.

If they are factory clear coated rims then you can use Hot Rims All Wheel Cleaner. You could also use Gold Class All Wheel Cleaner.

Generally OTC products won't work on heavily baked in brake dust. I would also suggest using All Purpose Cleaner diluted. I don't know how bad your situation is though.

Right now I'm using Chemical Guys Grime Reaper at 5:1 for serious wheel issues, but when I run out of this I'm going to pick up a gallon of Meguiars APC since so many people seem to get good results with it as well.

When you are done cleaning them and thoroughly drying them you should consider putting a wax, sealant or at least a detail spray on them to help repel the brake dust during daily driving.

Sonax Extreme Wheel Cleaner or AQuartz Iron Cut both are pH controlled cleaners that will remove stubborn brake or rail dust, road grease and grime

            Re: wheel care

Brake dust on the Chrysler brands is almost as bad as on many German cars so we feel your pain. Our Hot Rims All Wheel Cleaner should be more than up to the task as long as you aren't letting things build up over time and basically just neglecting the finish. Just make sure to clean one wheel at a time, start to finish, before moving on to the next wheel.

A quick coat of a synthetic wax like NXT Tech Wax 2.0 can make clean up a little easier next time around, to the point where soap and water might be sufficient. An application of All Wheel Cleaner will remove any wax you might have on there though.

Depending on how picky you are about the finish, and how much time you're willing to devote to the car, you might want to just hit the wheel with a quick detail spray and some wheel dedicated microfiber towels to clean them up before they get too dirty. It only takes a few minutes to do and will help prevent that nasty build up that ends up being tough to get rid of.
