  • Can spider cobwebs/scratches be removed permanently?

I was wondering if spider swirls/scratches are able to be removed permanently using products such as ultimate compound? I have tried using the following washing method:
    1. hand wash my car using McGuiar's Gold Wash
    2. dry using microfiber towels
    3. claybar
    4. handwash and dry again
    5. apply the swirl-x
    6. add the deep polish
    7. wax using Gold's wax

I noticed that the swirl marks/scratches are still there some. I'm wondering if I'm doing something wrong (technique) or is this something that will take some time to remove, etc. In the end; I know the scratches got on my car by using the brush at the 'do it yourself car washes' (I know; stupid for using the brush) but I have since stopped only hand wash my car now.

I haven't tried the ultimate compound but I wanted to know the following:
    1. would it remove the scratches/swirls since the scratch-x and swirl-x haven't.

    2. will swirls/scratches come back with time bc these products act as fillers so regardless of what you do; you have to keep doing it to make sure the scratches don't start showing again?

thanks in advance for all the info. much appreciated (oh, everything I've done has been by 'hand'; not using a buffer).

    Thanks

Thought I would add some pics of my ride after doing a complete detail. Again, I'm a total newb when it comes to detailing but thought I would share.

      Most aggressive on the left
      least aggressive on the right

You can totally eliminate light scratches with these products. If they are light as you describe, you may not even need something as aggressive as Ultimate Compound.

You can definitely remove them permanently.

The best/easiest way to do this would be to get yourself a Dual-Action Polisher and the proper products.

If you lived a little closer to Houston I could help you out, but Dallas is a bit of a drive!

I can't see any defects in your paint in the photos you posted.

If you can post some close-ups of the defects, that would be helpful. I personally like using the G110v2 dual action polisher for scratch removal, but you'd be looking at investing a couple hundred bucks.

It's hard to tell from you photos but you may want to do this car by hand. It appears to be in decent shape. If that is the case Ultimate Compound is probably the most aggressive product you would need, but it may not even be necessary.

The pictures are posted all out of direct sunlight though...any car looks good with a little cloud coverage

Like Bill said, get some pictures showing the swirls in direct sunlight.

Re: Can spider cobwebs/scratches be removed permanently?

I was looking around a bit and came across Tuck's post from last year about detailing his truck. The results looked amazing. He did mention that it might take several passes than just one.

Unfortunately right now I'll be having to do things by hand. That being said; I'm thinking of washing my car this w/e and then devoting the whole w/e to working out the swirls as much as possible. I think I'll try the swirl-x again on a panel and see if I see a difference or not. I think I'll also do a test spot with the scratch-x to see if that is too abrasive or not.

completely understand that Dallas is a bit of drive; appreciate the fact that everyone would be game to help me out, etc.
