    New on DA and some doubts

    Hello,

    first, sorry for my bad english.

    In last 3 years im using Meguiars products like waxes, cloths etc.

    Now I decide to do one more step and bought a G220 and a lot of products to care my cars. Im reading Meguiars forums in last 2 months, doing researchs about what to buy, and how- to do - watch all videos etc.

    Well, one of my cars is a BMW 2009 Series 3, black. I made the following steps with this car, using only Meguiars products, by HAND:

    - wash
    - clay with bar and quick detailer
    - deep crystal polish
    - wax with Meguiars gold class paste
    - all this using Meguiars pad to apply and supreme shine to remove

    this job was done by HAND - and the result was amazing. I cant believe in my eyes when I put the car on sun, almost blinded with the shine, lol. Im very happy and satisfied with the result.

    now my G220 arrive and I try to remove some scratchs from my car - I have a specific problem on this car: only the hood have scratchs and swirls.

    I apply SwirlX by hand and this remove ALL swirls - great result! however the scratchs (lines) remains.

    So I try to use the G220 (for the first time!) with yellow pad and using Ultimate Compound. I worked on small areas with medium pressure on the tool, dont left the UC dry, with slow movement on arm, and remove using supreme shine. I worked for 30 second in each area. I divided the hood in 6 areas.

    I made two pass on all hood, and this remove 30% of scratchs - a good result - but I need more. The hood continue with a lot of scratchs.

    This last picture show how the scratchs looks, have a lot of similars in all the hood. They appear more on artificial light on my garage.

    These pictures show a small area of hood, but the hood have a lot of these scratchs, all straigth lines. Looking near, appear these scratchs are "behind" the clear coat - but I believe this is just a "optical ilusion"

    Im not a professional, Im a newbie on these products. So I have some questions:

    1) is safe pass more Ultimate Compound with G220?

    2) more UC with G200 can give me a better result and remove these sratchs?

    3) maybe I should use anothe product?

    I read about some new cars have a more hard and protective coat over the paint, and maybe this made the scratch removal more hard to do.

    This car is a BMW Series 3, 2009 model, I believe this car have this type of coat?

    Can you feel any of the scratches with your fingers? Any idea how they were made?

      thank for your answers.

      I cant feel the scratches with my fingers or nails.

      The windshield have some scratchs, and this car come from Germany (1st owner) to me (2nd owner in Portugal). I believe the 1st owner dont take care with small rocks on the road, and in germany you can drive really fast.

      Only the hood and windshield have scratchs and smalls cracks - the windshield Im changing for a new one in next week.

      Now im trying to do my best on the hood.

        i would use a little more pressure and work a little longer on each spot....what speed setting were you using?

          Hmm... he may have laid something heavy, rough, etc across the hood then, who knows. Scratches from a car wash would tend to go all over the hood and trunk as well.

          #105 would be the stronger product to use, but UC is supposed to be easier to use with the DA, so probably best to use that if possible. I dont know BMW paint, so someone elsem ay be able to chime in on how workable it is, though it sounds like you did well with the swirls.

          2 passes isnt that much, if you get to 5, it is probably time to stop. If they are deep enough, they just might not be removeable.

              And I will try more 2 or 3 pass and stop like you said.

                I'm not 100% on comparing the g220 and my pc (non xp) but I use 5-6 speed setting.

                  Use as much pressure as you can and have the pad still spin. I think the "goal" rotation speed is keeping the pad at 1-2 rotations a second or so???? Put a mark on the pad or backing plate to ensure it's still spinning.

                    Yeah, try bumping up to 5 at least, not sure about 6.

                      BMW paint especially on the newer models is like butter. I drive an 08 E92. I think its because in germany they are required by law to use environmentally friendly paint which equates to water based paint. I get new rock chips almost every week, and this is with very careful non tailgating driving. The BMW paint is very soft, on mine at least, and I've heard other complain about it as well.

                      It also has real bad orange peel

                      BMW paint is horrible
