It is like most things, Bill. You get use to it. I grew up north. Loved Winters. Now I would probably freeze to death. So your body to a degree, does adjust, whether it be cold or heat. Just my 0.02.

Move to Canada if you want to stay cool
We get a week or two of 30C (86F) per year and that's about it. When it comes we welcome it. Honestly I don't know how you guys work in the type of heat you get down South. My hat's off to you. I'd be draggin' my butt in those temps.

I don't believe mine is a commercial grade. I have had it for several years now and I think it would be considered a consumer style unit.
As for your fan to extract the hot air...great idea. I am a believer in using my garage for my vehicles, and when you pull in two HOT vehicles, coupled with HOT temperatures, it is not uncommon to see garage temps exceeding 160+ degrees.

I was just looking at those on Lowe's website today. They have some more consumer-style units in the $250-$400 range. Is yours a more commercial-grade unit?
The only thing I have in my temporary shop (garage) is a box fan installed where there is an unfinished space that accesses a vent in the side of the house. It's on a timer; so it runs everyday from 5:30 pm to about 9:30 pm. That is the time where 2 hot cars pull into the garage, so the fan automatically kicks on and pulls the air out of the garage. I over-ride the timer and turn it on whenever I'm working on a car; and it actually does a pretty good job for a cheap box fan. Here's a picture of it in the reflection of this hood:

Re: Ways to stay cool while detailing
I use a full size roll around cooler. It really does help until the monsoon moves in and humidity increases. For the most part, "it's a dry heat" as they say so it works well. With it, I use fans to ad in air movement and a wet towel around the neck which really does help keep me cool.
When work is complete, a cold beverage of choice seems to bring the body temperature down too!

Re: Ways to stay cool while detailing
I may try the oscillating tower fan idea. Lately, with temperatures in the high 90s, I haven't felt like going into the garage at all. Now at least we are down in the 80s.

Working in Houston has me conditioned like I would never believe. I don't even like working by fans.
Go work in a warm and humid climate for a few months, you'll be all good.

AC in the garage??!!!!! That is HEAVEN!
Lived 25 years in FL and moved to UT... give me heat and no humidity and I'm fine!
I have come inside and misted my head with water a few times. That really helps get you cooled down.
