Just bought a used Bissell Little Green Machine and have a question...

I bought a used LGM today off CraigsList. I got it home and removed the solution tank from the machine. As I did, a tiny spring fell out and then I found a small steel ball bearing.

Both the spring and the ball-bearing seem to fit in the intake valve located on the bottom of the solution tank. m I on the right track? If so, does the spring go in first, or the ball-bearing? And how do I keep them from falling out in the future?

Or do they go in the chassis port shown in the 4th photo?

Just took mine apart to check for you. I think you are missing a part. My spring and ball bearing are not visible like yours.

There's nothing in the intake valve (the white stem on the bottom of the solution tank)?

I don't own the machine, but I took a look at the manual online. It does mention possible leaks if the ball/spring are not in place, but then it doesn't go into detail. You could phone there support line.

I'm thinking the ball goes into the "white stem" first and then the spring goes in between the ball and the "chassis port". The ball will keep the liquid from coming out unless there is enough vacuum from the motor to compress the spring enough to extract solution from the tank.

Just a guess. I would put it together without the ball and spring first and fill it with water. Watch it leak and get an idea of how it works without the risk of burning out the pump. Then add the ball and spring as you see fit.

Thanks guys. I called Bissell and they knew immediately what I was talking about. It's called the cap and insert assembly and will cost about $5 to replace. I just have to take my LGM to an authorized repair center about 6 miles from where I work.
